After trudging out from Lienz town centre I was a bit disappointed with what I found. The building and location are great but rather than the museum I had been expecting it's mostly given over as an art gallery for a local artist I'd never heard of. There is a café/restaurant and a well stocked shop but even getting there... More

Museum was very well equipped with lots of local artifacts. If you have the energy, there is a tall tower you can climb that will give you a great overview of the town and surrounding valley.

We walked from the city centre along the river to this hillside fortress. It felt incredibly old and atmospheric especially with the dour paintings of Albin Egger-Lienz. Sadly there were few other visitors but in a way that made it more special for us.

Displays that we saw were very varied and some very unusual to downright weird (models of nude hanging men from a joint scaffold). It was a very humid and thundery day and the temperature inside the museum soared and was totally airless which made it a bit hard to really appreciate it. Certainly when we went there some very strange... More

Well preserved castle architecture, which has been restored and updated to make exhibition space. The medieval chapel frescoes were superb. The Egger-Lienz paintings were well displayed with useful information - for those with no German, there was an English leaflet. We enjoyed the film and special exhibition on sculptor Jos Pirkner. The cafe is in a fantastic location on the... More

The castle is nice, also the restaurant in the garden. Didn't enjoy much the Egger-Lienz art exhibition even if he's very appreciated in the neighborhood.

It was not what we expected. Personally found the artist to be dark and depressing. No photography is allowed and charged 7.50Euros per person.

Bruck is well preserved, & if you are in Lienz it merits a visit. It does not have a guided tour and is not really geared toward non-German speakers. Nevertheless, if you want to see a nice castle in the Tyrol, go to Bruck.

The museum makes the most of a great location which is situated right off the city center of Lienz. The home of Albin Egger-Lienz's works are set across the entire building with other rotating artists. The building is wonderfully upkept and the chapel is a real highlight too! Don't miss this rarity in the hills here.
