Vishnupur is famous for uniqure terracoat temples constructed at around 16th century. There are group of 13-14 temples which are scattered around the village and we need to hire an auto to cover all these temples. We can cover these temples as a part of kolkata trip.We will get train(Aranyak express) to vishnupur from kolkata and can reach in 3hrs.We will get autos outside the railway station to cover all temples.

Rasmancha temple is the biggest temple of all these temples and there is no shrine of any God inside this temple. This temple is having nice architecture but there are no carvings on the walls, but there are big and spacious varendahs

Built by Bir Hambir in the 16th century, this beautiful terracotta temple pyramidal roof and small roof domes and arches on the outer faces. Radha Krishna idols would be brought here and worshipped during Ras festival until 1932. there is a common ticket for all major attractions in the town. Do keep in mind the fact that approach roads are narrow and parking difficult to find

Bishnupur can be covered as a days trip from Kolkata . I took a train from Kolkata to Bishnupur , and the train took 3 hrs to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata. Outside railway station , we get totos/auto's /cycle rickshaw to go to our hotel or to visiting terracotta temples in Bishnupur. Hiring Cycle rickshaws are not recommended for visiting temples at Bishnupur. I hired a toto which charged me Rs 300 for visiting tourist attractions in Bishnupur. It will take 2-3 hours to visit all major attractions at Bishnupur. There is a museum too in Bishnupur and for Rs 300 in toto even that was covered but I didn't visit museum. I hired toto for visiting tourist attractions at Bishnupur from near to Bishnupur bus stand . If one is hiring toto from railway station for visiting tourist attractions, the rate will be higher than rs 300. Even if your coming by your own vehicle to Bishnupur , I will strongly recommend to use only totos/auto's for visiting tourist attractions in Bishnupur.

If we take a ticket for visiting Rasmancha , that's enough for visiting all terracotta temples at Bishnupur. So keep the ticket safely with you even after you finish visiting Rasmancha . Rasmancha will be the first place tourists visit in Bishnupur.Guides will be available for hiring at Rasmancha who will cover all tourist places and they too will come with us in toto if we hire them. I didn't hire any guide , so no comments on it. At every tourist places in Bishnupur one can spend say 10 -15 minutes based on one's interest/photography.

Bishnupur does not have many hotel's/restaurants , so plan accordingly .

Bishnupur is for people interested in history/architecture/photography....

Till I visited Bishnupur, I was not aware that such beautiful temples are available in our own West Bengal. Believe me the temples are really beautiful but it needs to protected and maintained. The maintenance is really poor. Another issue is that the lanes and by lanes of Bishnupur is very narrow and crowded as such not fit for moving with an car. It is advisable to park your own car in a open space and than hire a TOTO rikshaw to visit all the temples.

A good weekend retreat. Can be covered in a day trip from Kolkata. Parking is a concern. I liked the new online ticketing system, though. Patrons need to maintain the decorum of the place.
