I was here in 2023 and now in 2024 I have seen marked improvements. The greens were absolutely perfect and well maintained. The fairways had more grass and the 8th hole is probably the most challenging hole in all of golf, especially when the flag is tucked away in the back close to the water hazards. They had nice hot water to shower after golf and the staff of Priyanka, Govind and Narayanaswamy go above and beyond to provide fabulous service, all in all a great place to play golf.

I have given this place a 2 star review for the following reasons: I played here in 2022 and now in 2023. Most of the fairways still very sparse with grass, lot of muddy type fairways. They need to overseer to present decent fairways. The bunkers are never raked, it seems. The worst experience was we called the club house to make sure they turned on the hot water for a shower after the round. Guess what, they didn’t, just like in 2022, when I played here. So I had to take cold water shower In Bangalore after a round of golf. It just took the fun out of playing golf. The staff here really don’t seem to care, I guess it is a result of poor management. They boast of golfers like Nicolette saying great stuff but they run this place pretty shoddily. Now the good stuff. They do have the best bent grass greens in all of India. Their par 3s are simply the best and challenging. The course layout is really good. If they want to be considered as a premier high end golf course, they need to oversee the fairways, have running hot water for guests both for washing or taking a shower after golf and speed up restaurant service so guests don’t have to wait for 15 minutes for a cup of tea, I must say, though, the tea was really good. I would give this course a four star rating once they make the fairways full of grass and have running hot water, now that’s not too much of an ask. If you intend to play golf here and plan to take a shower before you leave, remember, you won’t get hot water.

The property is basically a weekend housing project with golf course. The vacant houses are being promoted as resort.
Let me take you through our experience there.
Once we reached the property, we tried calling the GM Avinash or the Assistant manager Sridhar. After calling them more than 10 times, we didnt get any response. Asking some people on the road, we finally reached the club house.
We were asked to goto our room and the person guiding us to the place told that since we are 4 people, we are allowed to use only 2 rooms out of the 3 in the villa. The kich- kich only had started.
Post getting fresh, we went with the idea of playing some golf. We were again shocked to hear from SRIDHAR that WE NEED TO PAY EXTRA TO PLAY GOLF. After clarifying from the GM Avinash, it was told to SRIDHAR that this was in package.
We went to have breakfast. Again this guy SRIDHAR came with a mood to have a fight saying that we can have only Idli or Dosa. If we want to have Bread Omlet, we need to PAY EXTRA. We again had to to argue asking the GM to intervene. It was really insulting. Since these people are not properly trained from the hospitality angle, there intention is just to extract money.
Some other aspects of the resorts:
1. There is no reception to call to.
2. NO swimming pool.
3. Snooker table is there, but we they said the stick is broken so that we cant even play that.
4. TV doesnt have DTH connection.
5. You cant play golf if there is some tournament going on.
6. There is hardly anything to do in the property, other than just sitting idle.
6. Service is really third grade
7. Even the food is ok kind. Not good.
8. You need to have your own car to visit the place as the distance from your room to the clubhouse/restaurant is quite far(atleast 0.5 km).

Zion Hills is a good weekend getaway & a golfing destination.
It is located off the the road leading to small town of Bangarpet from NH 4 (Old Madras Road). So depending up on where you are staying in Bangalore, it would be an average of 1 to 2 hours drive (or even more) in & out of town. So please do plan your journey well.
Although your GPS (Google Maps for most) would set you up just finr for the journey. polease bear in mind, people coming via Krishna Raj Puram (KR Puram) it may take even take longer due to the omnipresent congested traffic situations under the KR Puram flyover, especially during peak hours.
Travel times can vary by as much as 45 mins to an hour depending upon the time you decide to traverse through this area of KR Puram.Ideally speaking it is best is to travel early mornings, between 12:30 - 3:30 PM or after 10:30 PM.
Soon after crossing KR Puram, you will encounter a toll plaza, post which the drive would be uninterrupted tills the destination. The road on the NH 4 (Old Madras Road) is very good with occasional rumble strips posing as speak breakers.
You will find a few highway stopovers like 'Kamath' & a Coffee Day if you wish to stop. There are plenty of fuel stations as well.
PLEASE NOTE : On crossing Kolar (small town on the highway), you would come across a flyover/bridge with a sweeping left turn and the turn off to the Bangarpet main road is hidden & tucked away on top of the bridge on the left and is easy to miss. Best to slow down & stay to the left once you hot this bridge to avoid missing the turnoff.
Once you have hit the Bangarpet main road, you will encounter a railway level crossing. From here it should take you 15-20 mins to reach Zion. This is the same road which lead to the famous but now defunct 'Kolar Gold Feilds' or KGF.
You will see various signboards put up by Zion guiding you to the property for which you would have to take a right turn (watch out for a small hoarding on the right side telling you to take a right).
Once you are on the narrow but paved country/village road, you should reach the property in a few minutes on your right greeting you with a large gated entrance.
From here on,I would like to share my experience on 2 counts as follows:
1) The Accommodation:
- The tariff's can vary depending upon the no of people & duration so its best to call in to discuss in advance while booking with their representatives on this aspect.
- You would stay in one of the villa's which are large & spacious over looking various different sections of the golf course. Typically, the master bedrooms are quite decent in size, you have large dining & living areas on the ground floor and a family area on the first floor. There plenty of space for a family or a set of couples staying together in a villa.
- The views of the expanses of the golf course, water bodies the beautiful bougainvilleas & the general topography of the area from the balconies & ground floor sit outs are something one would enjoy tremendously.
-A word of caution though, a lot of the villa backyards are located close to the fairways & greens and an occasional stray golf ball can whizz past you so please be watchful for golfers on the course especially if you have children with you for whom playing in the backyard would be second nature.
-The staff is very helpful and is available on mobile phones as and when you need them. Food can be ordered to the villas.
-You can go down for a stroll in and around the golf course; but again please always be watchful for golfers on the course and NEVER walk on the greens (the dark green patches with flags on them) unless you want to face the ire of the golfers and the course staff :)
2) The Golfing Experience:
- At the moment the golf course has 9 holes played from 2 different tee positions to 2 different flags on large greens. The back 9 is WIP at the moment.
- The green fee is reasonable and includes caddie fee as well. You may tip your caddy if you so wish.
- There is a driving/practice range right at the club house where you can hit off the turf.
- The pro-shop stocks basics only.
- Each hole is full of character and you are likely to love the course layout. There are some risk - reward holes which would tempt most golfers.
- This is the only golf course in Bangalore with the lovely & carpety bent grass greens and they are an absolute pleasure to putt upon. They would reward all good shots with a dead stop and would run true most of the times. These greens, without doubt best greens in Bangalore & in Southern India.
- There is a lot of dead walk between tee & greens.
- The bunkers have good quality soft white sand.
- With winds the course can play much longer than its actual yardage.
Zion Hills can get crowded on weekends as it a popular destination for golf & leisure for ex-pats, especially from South Korea & Japan who come in large groups not only from Bangalore but even from Chennai. It is advisable to make your reservations in advance so that you are not caught out.
I have stayed at Zion on many occasions and played many rounds of golf. I would like to give a shout out to the entire team lead by Arjun Lal for doing a commendable job of running the operations at Zion.
Kudos!

Nice place to hang out for a short weekend break. Villas with 2-4 bedrooms available at reasonable costs. Food is a little expensive for the quality. Service is lacking due to inadequate staff. Great golf course

A very good golf course very far from Bangalore. Excellent greens and fantastic fairways. A very well maintained course. The TSG academy functions from here. Nice to see some pros practicing. Worth the visit. Will be even good when full 18 holes comes up.
