On the auspicious day of Diwali (24th Oct'22), myself with my hubby got to visit Kolaramma temple, located at Kolar.

This temple is 1000 years old & built by the cholas in the South Indian style. Goddess Parvati is worshipped here as Kolaramma. The temple has got beautifully carved statues and the designs are done by Granite stones.

We had a good dharshan of Kolaramma and offered our pranams.

Had a most blissful evening at the temple.

Other than the history associated with this temple. The temple has been declared a protected monument. It is well maintained. The unique feature that i noticed was the scorpion as an emblem above the diety immediately visible. The scorpion is also in another part of the main temple near the place where the utsava moorthy is placed. Another unique feature is that you cannot immediately see the main diety. It is within the garbhagudi to the right . So during poojas you can see the reflection in the mirror kept for the purpose. Only when you go very close to the garbha gudi (inner sanctum ) and look in , you can see the goddess in her splendour.

Kindly note the timings (not mentioned anywhere) if you want to visit the temple in the morning - weekdays other than Tue/Fri/Sun : 5.30-8.30 am . Tues -5.30am -1.30 pm Fri : 5.30 am-3 pm . Evenings usually the temple is open after 5pm.

Walkable from the Someshwara temple and opens earlier than the latter in the evening, so visited this during the time the latter was readying to open. Like many other temples in the region, compelling architecture makes it a must visit for folks from all beliefs and faiths.

this temple is walk-able distance from Someshwara temple. The Kolaramma temple is built by Cholas and is around 900+ yrs and dedicated to Goddess. The temple houses two shrines, one for Durga who is known as Kolaramma and another for Saptamatras.

Interestingly The goddess isnt visible directly like other temples and is situated to the right in the garbha gudi. you can see the reflection in the mirror or have to be to the left and close to the garbha gudi to see the deity.

we were looking for a day trip, having already had a vacation during Xmas break, wanted to go away from the busy spots. we had not covered west of BLR, so went on sunday of the repulic day long weekend. started at 7:30 with two small kids in tow, were at kamath's in an hour to have breakfast. since it was sunny, we decided to go to antharagange first - then went to Kolaramma Temple. Architecturally very pleasing and a ASI protected monument.

Very old protected monument and taken care by Karnataka tourism department. It can be a good half day trip from Bangalore. It can be a potential destination if properly advertised. This is the oldest among few temples around Kolar district

This 1000- year old temple was built by the Cholas on South Indian style. There are inscriptions valuable to students of history in Tamil and in Kannada. The main Deity Kolaramma is worshipped as Durga Devi. Actually the Deity's mirror reflection only could be seen. Even then , one can see the divinity and beauty of the Goddess. There is another shrine for Goddess Chellaramma , who is said to have protected the people from the poisonous scorpion bites. Unlike in other temples , the Sapthmatha statues are very big and beautifully arranged. No entry fee, The temple is open for worship from 8 AM to 12:30 PM and from 6 PM to 9PM everyday.
A small well maintained temple.

This is a very nice temple and just a 100 mtrs away from Someshwara temple in Kolar town. The temple was built in 3rd century by Gangas and later by Cholas. Very beutiful carvings on the temple gate and you can only imagine the lost glory that would have in that Golden era.. Please dont go in afternoons as they are closed from 1pm-5 pm. I had a hard time because of that and luckily the watchman was around to open the temple for us.
