The Jain family of Shahs built this palace in early eighteenth century. Manikchand Shah of the family helped Mughal Prince Farrukshiyar in his successful effort to become Mughal Emperor and was conferred the title 'Jagat Sheth' . The family was one of the richest in Asia and their power and wealth was at the highest at the time of Mahatab chand, who was contemporary to Nawab Alivardi Khan and Shiraj ud Daulla. Mahatab Chand conspired with Mirzafar and joined with Lord Clive to bring down Shiraz in the Battle of Plassey. The house oc Jagat Sheth was the family's residence and businees centre and has been converted into a meuseum now
We visited this place in January 2024 during our Murshidabad tour. The entrance on a narrow road looks unimpressive. The white two storied building complex around a square water pool also does not give the impression about the massive wealth and money power this family once possess in Bengal as well as in India. Inside large number of things used by the family and portraits of the family members are displayed. Coins minted by their own mint, financial documents of that period, weapon collection, utensils, furniture, artifacts from the family's collection can bd found. The best one is a piece of famous Bengal Muslin. You will get stumped seeing how fine the cloth is. It is kept showing that it passed through a small ring. What an amazing skill!! There was some pieces of rare Silk sarees with gold brocade on one sidd and silver brocade on the other. You can see the underground complex where wealth used to be kept in safe custody.
This place is one of the important attractions in Murshidabad.

The Jagat Seths were a rich business and Money lender family in Murshidabad, Bengal during the time of Nawab Siraj-ud-Daula. He came from a rich Jain Marwari business family in Murshidabad.
A little away from Hazarduari place is the house of Jagat Seth now converted to a museum. Check the artefacts and you can imagine the opulence of the person. Also, at present some more renovation work is going on to showcase a Tunnel which was used secretly by him.

Jagat Seth, one of those persons who were involved in conspiracy to kill Siraj. You can have his residence way to Nasipur Rajbari from Hazardwari palace. Jagat Seth was one of the most wealthy person in that time, he even has a mint in his residence which you can see during visit to his house.

Usually the person who looked after the accounts of Bengal during the Nawabi period were given the title Jagath Seth. This house probably belonged to them. Now it holds a museum storing several precious stuff. One can also find several secret tunnels inside the house and also an underground room. We were not allowed to take any snaps inside the museum however we were not barred from carrying our mobile phones and camera.

This is also a well maintained property and a kind of small museum. But the best part is the kind of oil paintings we have inside it. They are impressive and rare. Interesting place to visit.

Jagat seth a popular merchant of that time and a close aide to the nawab of Bengal had his house built in the form of a mini palace. Although the house presently in display isn't the original house as the original one got washed away some time in the past by a major flood. The present one was built by his descendants. Some historical items are in display. Good for a one time visit.
