The row boat ride was really good. This can be a good one time experience. But they were providing ride only to a short distance. It’s up to you to bargain and pay them little more to take you for additional distance.

A must visit place. Row boat is a good option to take. Takes about an hour and a half. Carrying a water bottle is enough for this ride.

U will save this trip forever, the prestine beauty of these Mangroves will be soothing to your eyes.
Two Suggessions-
1)Avoid going in Summers, becz its Tamil Nadu and heat will be extreme.
2)Carry Odomas(Mosquito Repellent Cream) for Boating in Mangroves.(Thank me Later)

May be it was a wrong time to go. But the day was jam packed fights for the ticket and no control over the crowd. Better arrangement and transparency could have been better. Or at least an online system should be there

One of the world's largest mangrove jungles. It's beyond your imagination if you haven't yet visited a mangrove forest. Hop -in for a boat ride and experience nature's beauty. It's a hidden gem and is just two hours drive from Pondicherry. Get early to enjoy a peaceful boat ride.

Our friends recommended this place, thanks to @google and @tripadvisor, for helping to figure things out. Had been to pondi several times but never knew about this place. Pondi tourism should work on promoting such hidden treasures❤️.
So here is how we 3 girls and one kid travelled.
Pondi-Pichavaram via cab, google maps has pretty accurate directions. Approx. 4-5 kms its off road, bit bad road condition.
We went on a Sunday, just before Durga Pooja. The queue to ticket counter had wait time of approx. 45-60 mins. A bit of mis-mgmt and lack of proper sign boards.
We had 2 options- row boat 🚣‍♀️ and motor boat 🛥. Row boats had 90-120 mins wait time while motor boat had 15 mins wait times.
We opted for row boat with whole idea to soak in the experience and do our bit to nature(motor boats is equal to pollution)
Costs around 300 for 4 with extra charge of 150 for video camera.

Our boatman was expert and check few photos from the trip. This is one of largest Mangroove forest in India spread across 1100 hectare( source: Wikipedia)

The boat ride was mesmerising and peaceful. Its actually a canal which isnt deep (heard approx 3-4 feet derp only)and relies on water from rainfall. It is high in salt content due to proximity to sea 🌊 which gives this beautiful aerials roots. If you pay Rs 50 extra boatman takes you bit interior, which is totally worth the money.
Also motor boats dont take you inside and tours on outside only, so my recommendation is opting for row boat. Its an experience in itself with free conversations with boatman, dive into details of this forest.

It's nice place to visit with family. We wanted to hire the ,motor boat but there was a long waiting queue for it. So we took the normal boat. After starting the ride, the boatmen will trick you by saying if you pay extra 500 him he will take a long route ( unofficial). Don't fall for it as this ride has a well defined route and they won't take you a single meter extra. We initially agreed and paid him Rs 500 but observed that every single boat takes the same route and covers same distance / time. Since we felt pity for the guy we didn't complain. This is done to every single ride and the TTDC officials are also part of it. Few small hotels are there where you can get fresh seafood. We had in Pavithra mess just before the boat house which was very nice.

It was supposed to be a 40 min boat drive. We asked the boat drive for a longer one which would take us through the mangrove forest. It took one hour and an additional 500/-, but the time and money was worth it.
