This place is one of it's kind. The grandeur of the monoliths ,the history and the stories were so lovely to hear. Its a must visit place for nature lovers at Jowai. This part of meghalaya was surprisingly more beautiful and I would love to visit again and again. The place has a soothing effect, a vibe not to forget.

Nartiang boasts of this Monolith Park which is a unique park in itself. It reminds us of the similar Stonehedge of England. However, this one is bigger in area and has many more numbers of Monoliths than the original one. This park was created in memory of the Jaintia warriors and kings and has been converted into a tourist spot and preserved site by the archaeological survey of India. The park is well maintained and strewn with monoliths from sizes varying from 3 feet to 15 feet. Its a matter of amazement on how so many and so big monoliths were raised by the tribals and maintained all these years.
Obviously, its a place to visit for those offbeat or enthusiast travelers who love to explore the new and unknown. But for those travelers who have limited time and their bucket list, this may be skipped as it takes half a day to just travel to and fro this place and there is nothing more to see around this place. So for normal travelers you may skip it, but if you are a travel freak like me, please do not miss it.
Personally I loved it.

The monoliths are maintained by archeological survey of india, there are so many monoliths found in meghalaya, but the largest monolith is here.
To reach Nartiang, it will take 3.5 hours journey by private car from Guwahati(160 km), 61 km from Shillong, taxis are available all the way. Also don't miss the Durga Temple at Nartiang.

Monolith is a geological feature consisting of a single massive stone or rock, or a single large piece of rock placed within a monument. Nartiang Monolith are most significant but neglected structure. It is about 63 Km from Shillong Meghalaya. There are large clusters of monoliths at the place, which have been erected to mark the reign of the Jaintia Kings. It is said these monoliths are the structure laid down during1600 AD. Being neglected place, one can just walk and spend some time sitting over there. There are no restaurant or food joints on the way, as well as near to this site. The tourism department must maintain such a historical place.

The Monolith Garden at Nartiang is the largest cluster of monoliths at a single place in the state of Meghalaya. Monoliths are memorials for people or events. The Nartiang monoliths have been erected to mark the reigns of the erstwhile Jaintia Kings, holding a significant event in the history of Meghalaya.

The park is located almost 17km from the highway. 95% of the road is in excellent condition and the view along the journey is so serene and calm that one forgets all their worries. Not too touristy like shillong...but have great potential. The monoliths are awesome. I just loved it!!

To get to this place, it's a bumpy ride off the main highway. The placed is steeped in history but sadly, it is so poorly maintained - heart breaking. The monoliths are grand to look at and leaves you wondering how such huge slabs of stone were erected. Being a site with very few tourists, it is kind of neglected. Come to think of, Nartiang being the summer capital of the Jaintia Kingdom - there's more to this place. I wish there was a guide who would explain the significance of the nearby pools and also the historical Durga temple. Once, okay.

Located almost 65kms from Shillong, one must visit Nartiang for its 500yrs old Durga mandir and monoliths. This place is calm and scenic. Though tourists do not come here, while staying in Shillong.

I have marked this as average only because there is absolutely no information at the site explaining what you are looking at and giving a clue as to why the monoliths are there and their purpose.
Site was a bit overgrown and has lots and lots of standing stones.
