Very nice place to visit with family and friends. Only disappointment is no hotels or food available nearby. Please carry some eatables but don’t litter.
We got permission to only travel to the point in vehicles, we had planned for trek but forest people informed that there may be elephants and leopards wandering but we couldn’t find any.
Worth visiting for the scenery and temple is very beautiful .

This is one of the highest hill in the surrounding area. You can reach the peak either by trek or by road. We did trekking. Heard that some stretch of the road is not in good condition.
Not very easy trek. It needs around 2.15 to 3 Hours to reach peak and 1.5 hours to get back, depending on your physical fitness level. Path is well marked. You need permission from forest department for trekking. We were not aware of this as there is no board or notice near the trek beginning area. Its better to start trekking as early as possible in the morning. Heard that Elephants and other animals can be spotted in these forests during late evening/ night
To reach the trek beginning spot (place called Konala Doddi).from Bangalore, you have to take left turn just after Harohalli on Kanakapura road and travel upto Dodda Maralavadi. From there you will have to further travel 11-12 Kms to reach the spot. You can take guidance of locals. You can park your vehicle in a nearby village.
On the top, there is a small temple and a pond. Surrounding view is good. The temple was closed.
There is a small shelter for picnic seekers for having food. You have to carry food and water from your Home or from Harohalli, as nothing is available on top (even water).
It was very sad to notice that entire patch was littered with all kinds of plastic like wrappers of chocolates, ice cream, broken chappal etc., this is due to the visitors who visited the temple for a festival recently.
Overall its a good place for trekkers and one day picnic spot for motorists.

Moderate level hike up a hill located inside the Bilikal forest near Kanakapura(south of Bangalore accessed via the Kanakapura road).
There are two routes to reach this hill. One is the jeep route accessed from Kanakapura which is not fun for a trek. To access the hiking trail, take a left from Harohalli towards Maralwadi - travel around 14 to 15 km asking the locals for directions, and you will reach the village where you will need to park your car. Here again the locals will guide you to the spot from where you can begin the trek. You may want to hire a local guide to the top. We did not. We found the trail to be fairly clear once you spot the beginning.
Since you will need to enter the forest reserve, it is advisable to take prior permission from the forest office in Bannerghatta. Else you might be accosted by men who say they are from the forest office and who demand money to let you in. The reserve forest area is cordoned off by electrical fence to keep off elephants. You need these guys to let you through.
This is not a well known trekking destination and so you might be the only ones on the route. Hence advisable to go as a group of 5 or more especially since there are elephants in the forest. The trek is a continuous ascent through the shrub forest - path is fairly shady with lot of trees. It should take around 1 and 1/2 to 2 hrs depending on your speed to reach the top.
There is a small temple at the top and the view from here is awesome. A priest comes to the temple once a week to clean and do puja. We found him when we went there on a Saturday. Friendly chap but a chatterbox.

I tried visiting this place today(8th Nov 2018) but disappointed as the forest officials were now allowing entry saying its only open on Saturday and Sunday. The entry was barricaded. So i am planning to visit again on Saturday sometime very soon.

Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta was an Awesome off Road Driving Experience with my Royal Enfield. We traveled with 3 Royal Enfield bikes (6 adults along with my 3.5 year old kid).We had to bribe at the forest check post as the guard told us driving with kid is not advisable. The road was scary but perfect 4 off roading experience and you can see the elephant dung all along the road. After driving a couple of Kms you will reach the awesome view point.Off roading and view point is the Highlight at this place .

If you are an expert in riding bike and if you love to ride, this is the best place seriously.
The road for last 10kms (I think) is horrible and make sure you are safe and not riding in the edges.
After reaching the top, there is nothing much. Just a small temple and one rock painted as Elephant.
Best time to visit: Any time of the year
Best mode of transport: Bike (without any other thought). People do trek, but I prefer bike.
Not so famous place. Thanks to the localites there in Kanakapura who suggested us this place.

Trekking needs permission in this area . Also this is open only on Saturday and Sunday. You can find lot of Elephant dung which proves there are lot of Elephants .
But we couldn't find any .
Very breezy area .under hot sun also you will not feel the heat due to the wind .
Nice spot for photography as it has beautiful scenary behind .
Speciality of this mountian is that the rock which is shaped in the form of Ranganathaswamy idol in the pose lieing down .This is viewed from back
Don't miss to go towards the water tank where you will find breeezy area.
There is a spot besides temple Tulsi plant ,it leads to a scenic place in 10 mtrs.

A good place for casual drive. Roads are good till we enter forest department protected area. However mind that there is no permission to visit the peak point as this animal wandering zone.

we are planning to go for trekking to Bilikal Rangaswamy betta with a group of 30-35 people. Does it require forest department permission.
Written 8 November 2019
Hi,
We are planning for one day trek with colleagues of around 25 members.
From the blogs and posts there's mixed response regarding seeking permission from forest department.
Need clarified information on the same, if permission needed then from where (Bannerghatta National Park, Bilikal Forest,...).
Also the process of getting the permission.
Quick response would be helpful.

does it required the permission from forest department in order to trek in Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta, if so, from where should we get that ??
Written 27 February 2017
Even if you hire a local guide will you need to take prior approval from the forest dept office? How difficult is it to get the approval and is there any time restriction on the trek? We can start trek by 5AM to be on top for sunrise or does it have to be after 8 or 9AM etc?
Written 20 January 2017
5 Am is risky as animals tend to move around at night.
Start at 8 better
