Chaitanya provided excellent guidance, offering accurate information and unveiling hidden gems I wasn't aware of. His explanations about the occurrences at the lake were scientifically insightful. Exploring historical temples added a rich layer to the experience. Without a doubt, choosing to visit Lonar was the best decision, and I am assured that I'll revisit this enchanting destination.

After seeing the reviews about Lonar Crater lake, i decided that i must visit this place duringbmy visit to Aurangabad.
And i was not disappointed.
We left Aurangabad on 14/11/2023 at 8.10 AM and reached Lonar village at 9.50.
Mr Amol Ph No 9975447088.....( I had read about him on net)....He took us on a guided tour of the place. His knowledge about the place is good. We learnt new things about our history. Realised that woman empowerment was much better during the ancient times
Nature is just amazing.

Visited this wonderful place at Lonar , it’s said to be created by an meteorite impact thousands of years ago. The surroundings area of the lake is dense forests which makes visiting the place a memorable experience.
We hired the services of Mr. Amol Sardar (mob 99754 47088) as a guide , he has very good knowledge about the history of the place & is a highly recommendable person.

It is a 150 Kms drive from Aurangabad, excellent road, took around 2 hours to reach. Lots of steps and then trails, took us about an hour to reach the lake. There is a temple around the lake, another 30 minutes to get there. There are temples in ruins, step wells before we descend to the lake.

A scientific and natural wonder. A must visit place. Very intriguing and interesting place to be explored. Good for family and kids. Lots of learning value.
We hired services of Mr. Amol Sardar, ( mobile number- 99754 47088 ) a guide from the local area and vastly experienced. He has plethora of knowledge of the local area and is willing to share. He is very reasonable in his fee.. but would say he is simply worth his salt for the knowledge one can gain at the end of the tour..
There are a few other places worth visiting in the town too

It is a beautiful lake! Green Lake, forest and quiet atmosphere makes you really calm! If you like history, this is the place for you! This place is full of temples almost 1000-1200 years old. Carvings are incredible! Most of the temples are in wreck, but you can imagine their beauty. 6 Km trek to the lake (3 Km downward and 3 km upward) is medium difficulty, but very beautiful and satisfying. We enjoyed the forest on this trek. Good trekking shoes are advisable. Our guide, Mr. Amol Sardar (Mob No. 9975447088) is very knowledgeable, polite and helpful. He showed the rocks formed after meteorite impact, the iron material in the soil, magnetic material in the rocks. He also performed the pH test on the lake water. Do not miss the ride on the rim and watch lake from the watch towers. Also do not miss the Daityasudhan temple. Konark style beautiful carvings.

Is trip to Lonar lake safe for solo female traveller?
Seemagoves
Pune, India842 contributions
Not very sure. The place seems to be safe enough but there is only MTDC if you are planning to stay the night. The best time to go to the Lake is early morning. You could plan to reach in the day , go down to the lake in the afternoon (but it is very very hot) come back and leave back for the city. However, this is a very tight schedule and when we had gone the roads were not very good

Is it advisable to go in mid- August?

That area does not get much rainfall . It will be humid but if you go early morning at sunrise it should be pleasant.

1) How long it takes to go down to the lake?
2) Is there a road around crater that we can drive around?
3) Any other interesting stop on the way fro Aurangabad to Lonar?
4) Did you get to see any crystallized glass/pumic stones due to impact?
5) What birds/wildlife can we expect to see?
Seemagoves
Pune, India842 contributions
It takes about 30-40 min to go down at a very gradual pace . This is a trek so wear shoes . There is no road and it is just through the mountain you go down and hence a guide is a good option.
We had a good guide who pointed us the birds. The wild animals are normally & fortunately not seen in the day !
We did not find anything interesting on the way from Auragabad to Lonar
