Baltal is indeed breathtaking...Ladhakh and Amarnath in view,Indus by the side and the rapidly changing weather ,makes it unique...the glacial snow melting by the side n the chilled waters of Indus were overwhelming...I cherised the experience...

We passed this area on the way from Sonamarg to ZojiLa Pass and the scenery was just out of the world !! Take a local driver who knows the roads well.

Sonamarg and Baltal valley is no doubt one of the best places to visit in Kashmir. It is around 100 kms from Srinagar. It takes around 2- 2.5 hrs by car from Srinagar. It is a beautiful drive along river Sindh on Srinagar Leh highway. The valey itself is mesmerising. Beautiful waterfalls, views of Glaciers and dnow covered mountains and best of all white gushing waters of river Sindh. This place is only open for 6 months from March April to September. Rest of the time its all covered in snow. Best time to visit in early months from April to June if you want to enjoy snow. After that also though snow melts and is only in the higher reaches still the place is mesmerising. Thajwas Glacier is a 4 km track or you can go by ponies also. Other places you can visit are zero point. Kargil and Drass. Sindh river is flowing with all its might all along. You can sit on the banks anywhere and have a mesmerising experience. A must visit place when you go to Kashmir.

Simply breathtaking!!!
We enjoyed the road trip from Sonmarg to Leh, passing through the scenic Baltal valley. This also serves as the starting point for Amarnath Yatra.

while driving through Zojila pass, you can see the meadows and valley down the hills. In between snowy mountains. The mountains opposite to Baltal valley is so beautiful, you can observe it for hours and hours. Its like some very powerful natural phenomenon has crushed the mountain in semi circular shape.

Baltal is just 15km from Sonamarg. Baltal is 2nd entry point for Amarnath yatra. 1st one is pehalgam. there is nothing special in this place. this place became active during month of July n mid August due to start of Amarnath yatra. during this time only those one are allowed at this place who r going to visit holy cave with registration card. it means this is not a tourist spot this place is concerned with devotees of.lord Shiva.
