Welcome to the Gustav Klimt Center on the Attersee!

Comparable to Claude Monet's Giverny, Paul Cezanne's Provence and Egon Schiele's Krumau, the Attersee was a place of unique artistic activity for Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). The world-renowned artist regularly spent the summer months between 1900 and 1916 in this region. It was here on the Attersee that he created the vast majority of his over 50 known landscapes, which still delight art enthusiasts all over the world.

Experience a touch of this unique atmosphere for yourself!

A visit to the Klimt Center, a walk along the Klimt Artist Trail or a boat ride on the Attersee will allow you to retrace Klimt's steps and explore his impressive motifs on land or from the lake.

Soon you too will understand Klimt's annual longing to "be there"!

This is a small center for information on the artistic activity for Gustav Klimt who regularly spent the summer months between 1900 and 1916 painting the landscape. It was here on the Attersee that he created the vast majority of his over 50 landscapes. Just one upstairs room, with a gift shop plus a larger cafe downstairs. Worth a visit... More

You ´ll finde a great overview through the life and the period of Klimt. In a perfect presentation they present the beautiful pictures and the wonderful environment from the Attersee. Particularly worth seeing is the short and concise film

This centre is a fairly new addition to the attractions of Lake Attersee (itself a beautiful area of Austria) and shows the relationship between Klimt's holidays in the area during the early 20th century and his landscape work. If you thought Klimt as a society portrait painter and romanticist, this will show other aspects of his work. It is located... More

Lovely exhibit and very nicely done movie about Klimt in the Attersee area. A "trail" follows the lake front with more information, created by the museum.

Plenty of material in English as well as German. Good film telling the story of Klimt's love for and paintings of Attersee

The small but beautifully designed gallery shows just the right mix of original artwork, explanation and related material to give an understanding of Klimt's relationship with the Attersee region. The film (with English sub-titles) puts paintings and settings together in a visually interesting way. Sailing to Kammer, walking the Klimtweg to Seewalchen and returning by boat makes an excellent excursion.

I can vouch for those with favorable comments about the Gustav Klimt Zentrum. The 'museum' is tiny compared to those massive cathedrals of art in the big cities, but it works perfectly. You can take in Klimt's life, loves, postcard penchants and artwork in about 90 minutes. (Deeper thinkers are welcome to take the entire day.) A suggestion: Do the... More

Gustav Klimt was, beyond any doubt, one of the greatest painters. His talent and his exceptional point of view are expressed very well on his paintings of the Attersee and surroundings, where he used to spend his summer vacations. The Gustav Klimt-Zentrum in Schoerfling provides the visitors with a comprehensive picture of the excellent integration of Klimt and Attersee. It's... More

Klimt painted at Lake Attersee for many years. This museum has it all -- his works, information on his life, and an outdoor Klimt trail with kiosks positioned in places where Klimt would have stood while creating his works.
