Franker had one of the oldest universities in the Netherlands. This and more about the history of the old and beautiful city of Franeker (12500 inhabitants).

Beautifully restored 16th century building in Franeker, a former cultural hotspot in the Dutch province of Friesland.

The museum is housed in a former stins, or fortified small city castle build in the 1500´s. The museum shows several nice portraits of early former inhabitants or related people. It also houses an old porcelain collection, a reconstruction of the "academiekamer" of the university...More
