The original San Benedetto church was probably built in the 10th century and was restored in the 17th century.
Directly after the restoration works were finished, the chuched appeared to be too small to meet the needs of the population.
Therefore, by the end of the 17th century, rebuilding of the parish church started; the bell tower and the high altar were added during the 18th century.
The parish church was restored in 1907, decorated in 1947 and finally renovated in 2003.
Admission is free, although a small donation will always be appreciated.

From the boat it was an uphill walk, through the shops and windy streets. There were lovely views from outside the church. There was a sign requesting no bare shoulders and there was even a basket of scarves to use. The church was lovely inside and very peaceful....nice to sit or light a candle.

The church is visible landmark within the village and looks plain on the outside but very ornate on the inside. Worth a look round and there are great views from the entrance terrace back across the village and the lake. Bit of a steep walk up to it from the lakeside for those with mobility issues its probably easier to approach from the main road.

Very easy walking along the prom. You can walk from the car park area all the way to the Panorama hotel and beyond. Easy walking with lots of eating places and shops along the way. There is a shop that sells everything Lemon and is a must browse.

A haven of peace up and away from the bustle of the town - despite the above (unless it was in use!)

Very very small church. It is above the city so you can have nice view into the lake and mountains. Nicly illuminated at night

Found our way up through the narrow alleyways and quite steep footpaths in some places from the lake shore to arrive at the Chiesa di San Benedetto.

A notice at the entrance reminds visitors in several languages that certain dress standards are expected inside. Scarfs and cloths are provided to drape around shoulders or cover the legs etc for any unprepared visitors.
Inside, the cool sanctuary and dimly lit space is a welcome change from the mid-afternoon heat outside. Candles can be lit and private time to reflect and absorb the religious setting is afforded.

A beautifully maintained church..worth a visit

The church was close to our hotel and we were treated to bell ringing at various times. Decided therefore to pay a visit to the church itself and was amazed at the artwork inside along with the ornate architecture. A peaceful space and you learn of the Saint himself.
