Charming walled Tuscan Village

Charming Village with spectacular views from the top of the wall. My visit was in February so the most everything was closed for the season. Still worth a visit for the views.

Not a place I would make a day trip out to but was a nice little stop on the way home from Siena. Interesting fact is that the walls (which you can walk on parts of) are mentioned in Dante's Divine Comedy. Some great views of the Chianti region from up there.

Wonderful 12th century example of a medieval fortified town. Weather made the views exceptional with San Giminagno easy to see.

Monteriggioni was beautiful. We went in December and the weather was perfect. It wasn't too busy and it was very cool. The walls are amazing and offer spectacular views of Tuscany and the town.

Gorgeous little walled medieval city. They have helpfully put up a metal walkway at the top of the walls with gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside and village. They also have explanatory plaques along the walk with useful information. A ticket to the city walls also gets you access to the armor museum, which is quite fun (hey let you... More

We stopped in this tiny town on the way North from Montepulciano to Volterra. It is a little ways North of Siena on the way to Florence. It is a beautiful little town with a nice square and lots of very old buildings with interesting architecture. You are also able to walk on a couple of the sections of the... More

This is a wonderful easy bike ride from Siena! "Easy" means about 10 km, not much traffic once out of Siena, quite thrilling arriving! Wish I had tried the pilgrimage path--the Francigena--to return to Siena, but didn't have enough daylight (late afternoon start in November). If you go by car, it won't have the same "pilgrimage" feeling. Ride!

While many tour busses stop at Monteriggioni and it has the feel of a tourist destination, it is still worth a visit because as it is smaller than many of the other hill towns, you can actually get a big picture grasp of its fortifications and towers of defense. The parking is close to the walls and there are bathrooms... More

Smallish old town. A glimpse of the ancient times. Good view and great photo op. But then there are too many of these hill town in Tuscany that you miss it, it's still ok.

Fantastic views over the countryside, and lots of history in one place. Gorgeous. If you're a fan of renaissance history or the Assassin's Creed games it's a brilliant experience.
