Was tracing out the Donau river on Google Maps after visiting the river in Linz last summer. I was intrigued by the name, which seemed to indicate the mighty river pops into existence from a spring. Found ourselves in Freiburg, so took a quick day trip over to Donaueschingen to visit this site. It was interesting to see the spring... More

...starting at a small well, joining two other young rivers. After joining, the water is then called "Danube", starting a journey of over 2500 km, through ten countries, if I'm right.

It's a nice place to visit and to take pictures. Looks very romantic and the pictures look good as well. There is a wall where the entire course of the Danube is displayed, thru all the country. If you are in the area, it's definitely worth stopping here.

We visited the source of the great River Danube here today. It was a lovely experience, as we hadn't realised it actually began here. So amazing, from a little bubble to the great river it becomes. The area is really nice, well laid out and informative. Well done to those who built Donauquelle and who maintain it.

I live at the Rheine, and impressed that the source of another big European river are only 50 km. away from Europe's biggest waterfall created by the Rheine

This small spring of the Donaubach (Danube Creek) is nicely done but hydrologically it is not the source of the Danube as the name implies.

Quaint old town, and the Spring itself and its immediate surrounds are lovely. We also enjoyed bands and food and drink stalls set up in the area for the 3day celebration. Worth a visit too as you can stroll the lovely parkland and enter the church, which is actually the private chapel of the local prince. His family still occupy... More

Such a serene beginning to a river that has so much history and flows through so many countries! There is an elevator for those who cannot climb the steps down!

Donaueschingen was a planned stop on our way to Lake Constance and we didn't regret that we choose this place. Not only the beautiful architecture and a very good condition, but also knowing that this is a place where such a big river as I know it from Vienna, Bratislava or Budapest is born impressed me. I wouldn't recommend to... More
