Merida is not a tourist location...more a traveler's location. Very few people speak English, but the sights you'll see are incredible. We were visiting Lisbon and took the nearly three hour drive one way into Spain. It's an easy drive with a rental car with...More

Hi Greg - just seen this question so I hope it's not too late. The museum is well worth a visit as well as the ruins, so I would say 1.5 days to see everything comfortably and 1 day if you rush!

I am planning to stop in Merida on my way from Lisbon to Madrid. How much time do I need to see the Roman ruins? Do I need to stay the night? Thanks!

As most people have recommended, I would agree that an overnight stay is worth it. There are many things to see and do and obviously trying the local food is part of the experience of travel. Enjoy!

The roof is missing, the beds have gone and the swim rooms dried out 2000 years ago.
