Just off plaza mayor this archway leads to the old town with all its narrow streets and alley way's. Before going into old town stop at the top of the steps and turn left. You can buy tickets for €2.50 That will allow you to go up onto the City walls. Seriously great views.

When asking how to get to the old town, the response was, "Go through the archway across the Plaza Mayor. Those directions are perfect. It is a fitting transition from the new to the old and back again.

This is the archway you go under when you leave the Plaza Mayor to go into the old town of Caceres. Just like anything in Caceres, my advice is to always look back when you pass by any monument or building or church or anything! The archways is not an exception. When you see it from the Plaza Mayor side,... More

Lovely historic entrance, with the wall and the stairs. Even if they are filming one of the many movies made in town, you will be able to see and visit this site.

The difference in b uilding age either side of this entrance to the old town is mind blowing. The Plaza Major has old Spanish building but transiting through the arch you travel back to the middle ages. Amazing

This is a nice archway which looks over the plaza mayor. Has a set of stairs that lead up to the arch and then into the old part of caceres. Its just part of the stroll you will enjoy as you explore this vey well preseved town

Sit in a cafe and breath in the old history while people watching. A walk in the old city is a great way to see old architecture.

Nothing spectacular and truly hard to get a picture without teenagers hanging out on the stairs. Nice to see but nothing to write home about. The history of this town is truly amazing though... so many beautiful sites... this is just the entrance of your walk through time.

A most interesting archway, giving access to the historical old town. Good photo opportunity. The starting point for tours.
