Jawai dam is one of the most naturally beautiful dams in India, its home to such wide variety of birds including migratory and also to 1000s of crocs

Its a much visit place for a nature or wildlife enthusiast. Its a surreal landscape.

One can explore it via walking post jeep drive through farms or via jeep drive upto dam. Both are equally exiciting and we did both.

Being a avid birder, I had lot of fun capturing water birds

There are many hotels around but suggest to stay at Gurha Safari Camps

Jawai Bandh. Having being stayed for more than four years in Jodhpur, I have visited most of the places. However, Jawai Dam was on the list but couldn't make it earlier. This weekend we (myself with two of my friends) decided to take the trip.  We all three started from the Jodhpur at around 11.30 am and while on the way we took a halt to visit OM BANNA Temple. The Jawai Dam is around 150 Km from Jodhpur and it takes around 2.30 hours. It is situated near a small town called Sumerpur in the Pali district. This spot is to be visited mainly in wintertime. Built across the Jawai river which is a tributary of Luni, the dam offers an exquisite view of the river. Once you climbed up the stairs and reached on top of the wall of the dam, you see a magnificent view of the river and also wildlife around it. You can easily spot crocodiles and birds from the dam and the level of water makes the whole environment perfect for an outing. It is one of the vantage points in Jawai from where you can watch the entire village. You can go further alongside the dam wall to climb the rocks and have more pictorial views. Even after having such a pleasant sight, we could barely spot tourists there. Also, the place is more famous for its sanctuaries for Leopards, Birds, and Crocodiles.  The surrounding area having lots of stay options and the safari tours are operated privately here. If you love nature, must-visit.

It's full of energy and rejuvenating whenever you visit the same place again and again.
Walks and steps are tiring but scene post reaching the top concludes the hardwork.
Love is constant with Jawai Dam.

You are greeted by a popcorn seller at the gate. The hanumans can be fed, if you have the confidence to do it. They take it gently from your hand, by and large. You walk up a gently walkway or steep stairs on the top of the dam and everyone has the same response, 'Wow!' The beautiful lake is captivating.

Jawai dam is situated approx. 8 km from sumerpur town in pali district.

Dam is huge in terms of catchment area and surrounded 3 side by natural boundary wall of lava mountains for water storage.

However jawai dam area is famous for its leopard safari. Leopards are thriving in this part and made their safe habitat around.

Bera which is 15 km ahead of jawai dam is the center for safari activities. Lots of tent hotels and staying option available at bera village.

Area is surrounded with terrain type of dry and arid forest, rocky and scrub. Thorns, cactus and ber are abundant in this jungle. Lava mountains came into existence thousand years ago becomes natural habitat for wildlife.

Safari are operating privately as area does not falls under forest department. Morning and evening safari charges ranges from 3000 to 3500 bucks. If you have sturdy vehicle and knowing the area well than you can go by your own.

Sighting of leopard is almost guaranteed in morning or evening safari.

Seeing leopard sitting on the slope of rock is a wonderful experience. This might be the only place in the world where leopards are found living in a group, as against their natural instinct. Generally leopard is a lonely predator and always lives in solitary.

This is a classic case of how human and wild animal lives in co-existence without any conflict.

Must do visit for nature and wildlife lovers.

I visited this place in 2017 (3 times in a year) but no date is available as of now to post the review.

What a waste of time and waste of money. After I was given the guarantee that I would spot leopards on 100%, I was really very excited, booked an overnight accommodation, one safari based on sharing (the driver spend more then one hour at the lake), where just about nothing was to see. He enjoyed himself by chatting with his colleagues while I was shaking from cold in the 4WD waiting to leave for the next area.
After 3 safaris, all I got was a terrible flu. Not a single cat in sights. Never again.
One of my safaris, I booked on private bases but again, nihil sights.
Please guys make that 99% of the time, you'll spot a leopard.
What a waste of time and tourist trap.

Don't think much and just book Jawai Manohar Vilas if you're planning to visit Jawai. Thanks Mahipalji for nice trip. Mahipalji & his family member super friendly and the food is Rajasthani authentic homely and delicious. During our stay Mahipal ji and his team took us for jungle safari which proved to be the best of all the safaris we ever went to. They made sure we see wild animals and didn't stop until they found one leopard. Anyone who is interested and likes being close to nature, this is the place for you. Everything is taken care of for you from the stay to the safaris to visiting rh local village.
