I used to live close to the Saimaa Canal as a child in Lappeenranta. We followed the boat and ship traffic very eagerly. The Canal Museum is located in Mälkiä. It shows how the canal was built and told about the history. There is also...More

We enjoyed going through all the locks, seeing the scenery and a Finnish sing a long , but 5 1/2 hour ride each way was a bit much. We did enjoy a very nice buffet lunch. Really didn't have time to see much of Viipuri...More

It's enough stirring feeling when you see the passage of the ship through water gates for the first time in your life. Anyway you can't miss it if you decide to go by car or by bus through Russian (Brusnichnoye)-Finnish (Nuijamaa) border.

I´ve been visiting there several times. It´s easy to find many ways to spent few days in StPetersburg. Many museums and palaces to see. Food is good and cheap.
