This monument stands in tribute to the soldiers from Bellshill who died in the two world wars. The main monument features a sandstone plinth engraved with the names of the fallen. The plinth is surmounted by a Scottish soldier, dressed in battle gear, but wearing a Tam O’Shanter. On his back is a rucksack and he stands ready to march. The monument also includes a special dedication to recipient of a Victoria Cross, James Richardson, a piper with the 16th (Canadian Scottish) Battalion who volunteered to play his comrades over the top as well as rescuing several wounded comrades. The Richardson dedication is just behind the main monument.
