Even in the constant rain, this was worth the price of admission to see how millennia of former occupants had recorded their history, so nicely preserved and ecologically maintained. Snack bar is pricey ($4 for small water bottle).

We saw the various stone carvings which was interesting. Some of them area easy as they have been painted, others are harder to see unless you use the brochure they give you. Outdoor exhibition, so dependent on the weather. A little walk. The indoor exhibition shows some of the history of the area, which is also quite interesting.

Alta Museum a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE not to be missed . The rock carvings depicted the rituals and beliefs in that era. Mainly based on their methods of hunting and fishing. A way of life during those era for us to see. We had a wonderful Guide from the Museum named Seraphine. He was full of knowledge of the... More

The ancient rock carvings on the shore near Alta are spectacular and well worth a visit. Given the heritage status we were quite surprised to see the carvings were painted to make them stand out for visitors.

Our tour guide has only worked here for one week and this was his first tour! He did an excellent job and being a local could answer other questions re the flora. Worth paying for the full tour of the rock carvings.

We visited on a quiet Sunday morning around 10am. The place looked closed but the doors were open so we went in and headed for the only member of staff we could see. After paying our entrance fee and studying the map we set off. We didn't realise at first but after and hour and a half we noticed that... More

I was pretty shattered when we arrived here on coach tour, after staying up for midnight sun then an early ferry. So I only saw the rock carvings (not museum) but found them extremely interesting. We took a sort of fairly long boardwalk, amid plants and trees, to see several different areas of carving. Our guide was enthusiastic and pleasant,... More

I liked how they have set this place up. You have a sort of figure of eight walk way that takes you along the coastline to all the rock art sites. It is an easy walk most of it a board walk. Makes sure you have time as the walk is long. We got a little booklet that explained each... More

I must say that I was disappointed, especially as it was a Unesco World Heritage site. To see the grater part of the area, it was a 60 minute walk. Whilst the walkway was flat, they could have provided, even charged for an electric buggy. As a result I could only do the first part and that was difficult enough.... More

A very modern and interesting museum, however the actual rock carvings are not visible when it has snow (a great deal of the time).
