One thing I learnt during my visit to Finland, is how seriously the Finns take their History. This is specifically true of the Aviation, with a number of excellent museums devoted to the subject. The Finnish Aviation Museum is the most accessible being within the boundary of the Helsinki Vantaa Airport. Waiting to greet you outside is a beautifully restored DC-3 before you enter the main undercover museum to be surrounded by a wonderful collection of aircraft that have played a significant part in Finnish Aviation. Not only do they have a complete Convair 440 (a rare item in any museum) but you can go inside and witness how air travel was 60 years ago. Many past warplanes that have been a part of the countries defence can be seen. This is a museum for all the family to enjoy and a period of refreshment can be had in a modern retaurant/cafe together with a serious souvenir gift shop, with items suitable for everyone from the early ages to the serious books on history of aviation.
It is an excellent museum, worthy of anybodies 1-3hours whilst in Helsinki.

The museum is nicely located a quick walk from the Aviapolis train station. They do have a wide assortment of Finnish Aircraft, especially gliders. While the Finnish Air Force museum does have a wider variety of military aircraft from different international manufacturers, this one focuses more on the civil aviation aspect of things. The signs here were for the most part in both Finnish and English.

It is worth noting that when visiting this place in winter, a jacket is a must, as none of the hangars are heated.

The museum is really cool. I really enjoyed learning about the history of Finnish Aviation and I found the internal division between military and civil aviation very interesting. But, what I was most excited, was those fligth simulators. Those simulators are very realistic and I had a lot of fun. I am student of tourism and to me was an excellent experience.

Because of the COVID restrictions, this was our first museum visit in almost half a year. Even when our air travel has been quite limited, it was nice to visit here and refresh the memories of aviation. The museum was conveniently located next to our hotel, Clarion Aviapolis.

The museum has a huge collection of items relating to Finnish aviation. At the moment, space is used to its maximum and there have been plans for a new bigger museum.

The old Finnair's Convair Metropolitan was the highlight for us also this time. You can get inside the aircraft.

Actually main airport in Finland (named HEL) is not located in Helsinki, thus it's location in neighboring town (Vantaa) is quite near (25-40 min from city center of Helsinki), depending on traffic. Finnish Aviation Museum also have a good restaurant in it's facilities. Name of restaurant is Mandeli. They offer a good meal at lunch time as many workers are nearby in daily work. On the other times you can take small eats and dessert & coffee & tea.

Great exhibition on the early decades of Finnish aviation. Hope they will get in the next few years more space to show more aviation treasures.

Very near the airport and hotels, nice small museum with very rare airplanes. Good to visit with children also, even when papa is the biggest kid.

Interesting for adults too but especially for kids! You can roam around in an old airplane and see a lot of different aircrafts from different time periods. The only downside I can think of is the children play area; the toys and the games are broken and missing pieces and there could be a lot more of them. I know it's not the reason people visit the museum but if they want to offer a play area maybe put a little bit more effort to it?
