    Well worth visiting
Excellent afternoon out. We were on a tour with Alison - she was knowledgeable and made the tour v interesting. The display was well done and we both learnt alot! My husband and a question of the girl at the welcome desk and she made a real effort to finds the answer and then chat to us and give us even more facts and figures! Thoroughly recommend a visit

A good way to spend a half a day
I was very ambivalent about going but it turned out to be a fabulous experience. Our guide, Danial, was very informative with a lovely side of humour. The tour is recommended as it brings the story of our coinage to life. Striking a coin gives a lovely momento of the day. All the staff we came into contact with clearly enjoyed their working environments and were friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended.

Well worth a visit, avoid the cafe.
I was part of a coach trip to visit The Royal Mint. I really enjoyed the trip, had a 45 minute tour giving information about The Mint and the production of coins which was very interesting and the exhibition was very informative. Didn't get the full stars as the cafe was disappointing. The menu was adequate for lunch or a snack, along with the quality of the food - but, the service was soooo slow. Writing an order on a piece of paper to go to the kitchen was so archaic which made the waiting to order food far too long, room for improvement there. Overall an enjoyable visit.

    Brilliant experience
We booked the experience online but arrived a bit earlier and were allowed to go on an earlier tour. The staff that work at the exhibition are so friendly and very welcoming. The tour guide was really knowledgable and engaging talking us through how the coins are made, the live factory viewing area and the exhibition. We pressed our own £1 coins which leaves you with a souvenir of the trip. This is a tour that is well worth a visit.

    Amazing day out.
Just completed a VIP tour. Fantastic visit. Our two guides, Hillary and Mai were excellent as was the catering. All of the people we met were incredibly friendly and knowledgable. It was a real eye opener in what it takes to make coins and I had not realised the number of countries that they produce coins for. Really recommended. Thanks Hillary and Mai, you made the day

Drove from Somerset. Good for a half day visit. Guide had a sense of humour. Display at the end is really interesting. Highlight of the day was the Tuna baguette followed by a Welsh cake…

    A Mint Experience!
My son had been collecting coins so bought this trip as a birthday gift. Staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly. We did the £55 for two experience which included the tour/talk (our guide Daniel was brilliant, funny and knowledgeable) and lunch, which I thought for £55 for both of us (not each) was excellent value, when you compare with other attractions. Learnt some interesting facts - never knew the Royal Mint produced coins for other countries - and stood next to a room which had £100 million in coins in it! Great experience, thank you!

    Great tour and exhibition!
Well! I have a new appreciation for my husbands coin collection now. Genuinely found that a great experience, and because it’s so relatable - it was interesting. We did the tour of the factory as well as the exhibition and that was the difference for us. Danny was our tour guide and he was fab! Then one of the factory workers (Martin, I think - I’m so sorry if I’m wrong) came out and showed us some of the coins he was working on. Really cool. The way Danny explained everything really kept me engaged. We had a 7 year old who was really interested the whole time. Spent about 2.5 hours here. Didn’t use the cafe other than to buy a coke. TIP: Make sure you purchase the self punched coin when you check in - it’s a lovely token of the day as you can’t buy it at the time of punching. Great end to the holiday, thank you.

Nice tour of the Mint and visit to their museum.
We visited for a tour and paid extra for our children to mint their own coins. We spent about an hour and a half at the mint in all. The tour itself explained how coins were made, then showed us the machine floor where the process takes place. Our tour guide Daniel was amusing and informative. You don't get to see anything of the "real life" work close up, although you can see how a minting machine works at relatively close quarters at the stage where you mint your own coin - the guide puts the blank into the machine, you press a button and the machine does the rest. After the tour itself, there is a museum element, showing the history of coin production in the UK and other things the Mint has done, like making military medals and medals for the 2012 Olympic Games.

    The tour guides are fantastic
The tour around the mint was brilliant, my children (6&8) were totally engaged by the excellent Daniel who gave the tour - a perfect mix of interaction, history, facts and humour. We had a query with a discount that wasn’t applied at the time of booking and staff were more than happy to help resolve. The cafe had a nice selection of food and again, the staff very friendly. Would highly recommend a visit.

Like many others we took the advantage of booking this tour to strike our own 50p. The tour itinerary stated that the tour would be different than the usual tour and last approximately 45 mins. We were in and out in 15 minutes! You were rushed from one, put up stand with a picture of a 50pence piece on it to another. If we hadn’t been before you would not learn anything other than who had designed four 50p pieces. If the website had not said no refunds, we would certainly have asked for one.Another item we wished to buy was the 2 x 50p coin pack 1973 and 2020. None available, they will be down later! We were at the mint for approximately three and a half hours, waiting, but gave up. We checked on line whilst there but they were sold out. So very disappointed, 120 mile round trip and a bit lighter in the wallet but could not obtain what we thought would have been available. We did talk to one man who had 4 tours booked! Bit selfish as now you can see the strike your own coins on e-bay for stupid money and all tours booked out before my sister could book.

Thank you for taking the time to post your review of your visit. We take on board all feedback as a means to improve our products and services. We are very sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the experience. The 31st event was a unique event for The Royal Mint and opening the visitor centre for 24 hours is something we have never done before. We anticipated high volumes of visitors as we were operating tours every 15 minutes for 24 hours. As a result we had to prepare for the potential of high numbers in each part of the factory tour, as a result and due to various operational issues we had to offer an abridged version of the tour as we endeavoured to communicate the best we could to guests. We will be looking into bettering any communications going forward so please accept our apologies on the matter. If you do wish to discuss any of these issues further then please contact us on experience@royalmint.com Thank you once again for your feedback which is invaluable to us as an organisation.

Royal Mint website opening hours 9:30am, after travelling some distance on 01/02/2020 to arrive at 9:45am, was informed they are not opening til 11am and the website had not been updated.
They let us into the cafe @ 10am and was very busy due to others having the wring information. Ordered a Latte in the cafe, which was awful😖
Spoke to the lady who said not using the coffee machine as it’s busy, they used a sachet with hot water and still charged the same price 😳
what a rip off for a cup of flavoured water.
Very disappointed 😔

Hi Jennifer we are very sorry to hear about your visit and will look into this matter in more detail. Due to our 24 hour event over the 31st a number of staff worked long and unsociable hours over a 24 hour period so as a result we couldn't open until a little later on the Saturday to give staff a chance to have a break between shifts. We appreciate this could have been communicated clearer and will be looking into the miscommunication in more detail. We will inform the catering team of your disappointment to ensure this does not happen again. Please accept our apologies and if you do wish to discuss this in more detail please contact experience@royalmint.com.

Very disappointed, the £25 cost was exorbitant. I have been on normal tours of the mint which were very informative, this tour was very basic. The ticket office did not have any of the new 50p brexit coins to give out in change nor did the cafe. Normally you can get 5 x 10p A-Z coins, there were none. All they seemed interested in was selling you the new 50p coin in a cover for £10.00. Only highlight was self striking the new coins, you were allowed 3 of this coin for £10.00 each. The display of medals and historic coins struck at the mint was very well done. The 1937 Edward VIII sovereign and the 1933 penny were superb. One of these, the sovereign, which was never issued due to the abdication of Edward viii, an example was recently sold for 1 million pounds at auction, how did it get out of the mint one wonders? The 1933 penny, one of only 6 examples known was only struck on that date because it was the custom that when the sovereign laid a foundation stone a complete set of the years coins were laid underneath the stone.

We are very sorry to hear about your experience with us. We ran an exclusive 24 hour event which is something we have never done before. We offered guests the opportunity on this one time occasion to purchase 3 strike your own coins per tour and offered tours every 15 minutes for 24 hours. As a result we offered an abridged version of the tour in order to be able to operate for 24 hours. We endeavoured to communicate this to guests the best way we could but we do appreciate the feedback. As far as commemorative coins in the tills are concerned we always advise guests whereas sometimes you will be lucky enough to receive certain coins in your change this cannot always be guaranteed. We are glad to read however you enjoyed our extensive exhibitions with many rare items including the ones you have mentioned. Thank you once again for your review.

Visited the Royal Mint on Brexit Day as special tours offered. Instead of their normal 45 minute tour that I'm told is informative, the tour lasted 20 minutes at best, the majority of which was spent in a queue to press a button to get a new 50p pressed. Very disappointing and exhorbitantly priced. They know how to make money!!!

Hi Ian, thank you for taking the time to feedback your thoughts of our 24 hour event at The Royal Mint Experience. We are sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the event. We sent out communications beforehand to explain to guests we would be offering an abridged version of the tour as operating tours every 15 minutes for 24 hours was something we had never done before. We wanted to give as many people as we could the opportunity to visit and strike their own coin which, as we correctly anticipated, meant we had many guests attending throughout the 24 hours. We appreciate your feedback as a means to better and improve all of our services moving forward. Should you wish to discuss any issues in more detail please contact experience@royalmint.com.

Absolutely enjoyed the tour, the guide was very good and funny. We got to stamp a coin which was interesting and the museum part at the end was very very good too. Interesting facts to learn and a lot of it was interactive to keep the youngsters involved. It is definitely worth a visit. They were disinfecting everything as well after each group which was very reassuring. Only the price seemed a bit high provided you pay separately for the stamped coin. Still a great place to visit.

Booked online for 10am tour, walked up from local Premier Inn (20 mins). Arrived just after 9:30, and was met by a very cheerful security guard, who went through COVID questions and took our temperature before letting us in. One way system in place for shop and cafe. There is a mini covered in old pennies and a ‘Gromit’ covered in new pennies for photo opportunities whilst you wait. At time of tour we went through further security and were taken through the whole process of making coins. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the whole process and answered questions on the way round. Got opportunity to strike our own 50p coin, and, in the exhibition after the tour, to try and lift a 12.5kg bar of gold. Really good tour, hugely interesting, highly recommended.

This was our second visit having first come shortly after the experience opened. We enjoyed our visit just as much and were impressed with the additions since then, for example the machines displayed just as you go outside. Chris, a new guide, was welcoming and friendly and took the first part of our tour very well. Luke then took over and was most informative and knowledgeable with a good sense of humour, he gave us information we hadn’t heard before and made us feel it had been well worth returning, well done. The cafe also seemed to have more choice and we had light snacks before our tour which were good. The shop has lots to choose from but some of the items we would have liked to buy were out of stock which was a little disappointing although buying from the website was suggested. All in all an attraction to be highly recommended.

There was no particular favourite the whole experience was excellent.
We visited on Saturday 19 June and our guide Alison was very good and most helpful.
My first tour of the mint was back in the 1980's whilst serving at RAF St Athan in those days a completely different style of tour!
I thoroughly recommend if you are in the area it is well worth a visit plus the entry fee I think is very reasonable.

This was our 2nd visit…… and almost post Covid….. We were made very welcome from the time we stepped through the front door. Alison was our tour guide for the first part of the experience she was very knowledgeable, fun and interactive, we had children in our group who she encouraged to participate, we struck our own coins, then we were left to enjoy the rest of the displays, we had a meal in the restaurant and again staff were friendly, polite and helpful, staff in the Gift Shop were also very helpful and friendly, would highly recommend, a joy to two of our party who coin collect

We paid £60 for a tour comprising 2 adults and 3 kids. It’s okay - a good way to spend an hour or so on a rainy day - but I wouldn’t go here unless you’ve exhausted other wet weather options. And the price is steep. Are in the cafe afterwards. Food by contrast was relatively cheap but very good, however some of the cutlery provided was very dirty, the tables were all dirty, and they don’t give out any cups napkins or glasses so it was overall underwhelming.
