Approx 9km north of Palmerston then turn right, off from SH1 following a local road toward the sea, then you find the Lookout, and if continued at the end there is seal colony. Much less tourists, compared than much more famous Moeraki Boulders at the...More

Great views and good place to spy some seals, and also some penguins. One of our fave places and much more dun than the boulders down the road.

We went to Shag Point looking for seals and penguins. Unfortunately there were no penguins to be found but there were a couple of seals lying on the beach

Someone mentioned we might get to see a seal at stag point so we took the detour to see. Sure enough a lovely one sunning itself by the side of the walkway. Great experience for the children

The road to this place is very narrow. Drive till the end of the road. It was raining when i visited this place. Hence i couldnt step out, but i could see seals at close sitting in my car. The view is good.

Shag Point Nature Reserve truly is seal suburb. Seals are very playful and undisturbed and there are a lot of them.

It is at the end of the Shag Point Road, with a small portion of gravel road. The view is magnificent, quiet, most likely you will get to have the whole place to yourself as there's not much tourists know about this place.
