Mary River is noted for its croc population. The national park gets you access to the river as well lovely forested areas and associated wetlands, billabongs, birdlife and flora.

Has campgrounds for overnight stays best accessed with a camper trailer.

Mary River is home to both fresh and salt water crocodiles as well as many species of birds. It is a great spot to launch visits into Kakadu and Litchfield National parks.

The main part of our adventure to Kakadu was to spend three days at Mary River Wilderness Retreat.
The quality Poolside Bungalows in lovely shady environment were air conditioned with overhead fans and ensuite bathrooms.
The hosts were most welcoming and did everything possible to ensure a return visit would be at the top of any future adventures...advice about what to do and see was readily made available. We enjoyed the river bush walks - however the late afternoon self drive river cruise was a highlight for us in the little red runabout.
We were also advised to join a sunset cruise of Corroboree Billabong Wetlands - the wildlife was extrordinary and made just that little more interesting because of the comments from the driver/guide...he was fantastic.
The restaurant at Mary River Wilderness Retreat was not quite as good as we had anticipated although it was a delight to have a light breakfast each morning and evening drinks on the deck of the restaurant.
The grounds of the this property would be some of the best in Kakadu/Mary River Region for campers and caravaners.
We will return - and probably for more than 3 days - it is so relaxing and enjoyable.

We went to this retreat for a 4 day tour. It was fantastic. 16 in our group who were collected by our guide, Kel, On the way from Darwin we visited quite a few places within Kakadu. What an amazing place. Upon arrival at the retreat we were shown to our little huts, which were gorgeous. Tons of room with ensuites. Meals were in a main restaurant, food magnificent. Beers were nice as well. During the 4 days we were taken to numerous places including Corroboree creek, Aboriginal paintings, river cruises in crocodile infested waters. Bbq on the small river boat.
Overall what an amazing trip. Definately do it again and would recommend it to all. Any age could do it.

We went on the Spectacular CROC jumping river cruise. Saw a lot of crocs and tons of fantastic birds - kites, eagles and kestrels. Highly recommend it. Very knowledgeable crew.

One of the most beautiful areas of the NT in my opinion. A birdwatching paradise and a fishing wonderland. You can even rent a houseboat to enjoy it for longer. Some of spots to check out includethe Couzens Lookout, Shady Camp,Bird Billabong walk and Mary River crossing on the main hwy

This place, which we visited on the way to the Kakadu, is really excellent. It's overlooked by the hordes going on the the Kakadu, but is a gem in its own right. We stayed at Wildman in the north and drove the Wildman 4WD track one morning. This is highly recommended as long as it's in the dry and you have a proper 4WD vehicle. It doesn't need special driving skills, we saw loads of wildlife and only 3 other vehicles in 5 hours. We also took the walk to Bird Billabong which is great, but you need to go early in the day (don't start out after 10am).

An undiscovered gem - don't miss it.

Mary River Wetlands are only 1.5 hours from Darwin and are an excellent place to view birdlife, plantlife, buffalo and crocs. Numerous tours operate in the area, or you can self tour at numerous well located viewing spots.
