Ivo Andrić's birth house is one of the most well-known attractions in Travnik. To be honest, the museum is not all that extensive. The house itself was actually rebuilt in 1974 so I don't know how much is actually original - if anything. Still, the home is worth the visit. I noticed that some reviews noted that there were no signs for the museum but there were - they were just in Bosnian language. I happen to be reading Bridge on Drina right now so, small or not, I felt that I wanted to visit.

Those who say it's better to stick to exterior photos are right and wrong. There isn't much to see inside, other than heaps of books. There isn't much in the way of furniture or how the house was lived in, back in the day.

One of few things that you can do or visit in Travnik. To find this museum you have to ask people, because no sign that show you direction. However, worth to make effort and find it.

The lady asked me twice: Are you sure you want to go in... I think many people will have a short stop and take few external photos. Well, we paid entrance fees and entered the small house where Nobel Prize Winner used to live when he was young. Few rooms with many books.

even if you do not know the work of this writer - it is a fine example of a house of a local well-off family from fin de siecle, well kept, with good selection of "stories" from the life of Ivo Andrić. And if you enjoyed that - read his nobel prize winning The bridge on the Drina - really fantastic historical novel about the country you are travelling through!

Ivo Andric was the best Bosnian writer and it is interesting to see his birth place and the collection of his books that were translated to dozens of languages.
Next visit I'll bring them some more books that were translated to Hebrew.

Visit to a Museum birth house of Nobel prize winner Ivo Andrić was a part of guided excursion trip. It included welcome by a museum curator who introduced us with details of Ivo Andrić's life path. Since a guided tour was called "Travnik Chronicles" there was a professional actor from local theater having a performance and monologue from the book "Travnička hronika". Both of them were dressed in old traditional costumes. It is a tour which I would certainly recommend to my friends.

Ivo Andric remains in the eyes of many Bosniaks a very controversial author because of his anti-Muslim attitudes - but visit to his birthhouse is nevertheless worth an effort. It is, after all, a very fine example of an old Bosnian house, nicely reconstructed. It is easy to find too, not too far from Multicoloued Mosque (Sarena Dzamija)
