We loved this informative Night Tour with a Maori Guide Billy who bought the Forest alive for us. His knowledge was amazing as were his stories and singing voice. I felt goosebumps when we finally saw The Tane Mahuta Tree (The Lord of the Forest)....More

We will never forget the emotion of entering the forest, listening to the stories and the moving songs of our special guide, admiring the giant Kauri trees in the light of dawn. Not to be missed

We did the Twilight Encounter Bill as our guide. It was absolutely the highlight of our New Zealand trip. Bill's knowledge and passion for the forest and it's inhabitants was inspiring. And when he sang a greeting to the great Tane Mahuta, it sent chills...More

Kauri tree or " Kodey" in local dialect is a must see in New Zealand North Island. We had the greatest tour guide, Billy Boy. He is the funniest Kiwi I came across very knowledgeable man.

Our guide was Merepaea and she was great at explaining local culture and customs. Creation story about kiwi was good. She sang a few Maori songs and said some prayers at various parts of tour. Kauri trees were stunning! Sooo big...absolutely indescribable. Worth the admission...More

We took the twilight encounter and Meripae in November. I use a power wheelchair and there was some question as to if my wheelchair would get through the terrain. There was some rain early in the afternoon, so Meripae called our hotel room to give...More

We took the Twilight Encounter with Meripae in early December. Her vast knowledge of the ecosystem, Kauri Forest and Maori Legends was amazing. The experience was almost "spiritual" as we walked through the old growth forest at dusk, surrounded by Thousand year old trees as...More

On our night tour, near the end, we were served a very warm tea. It was very good. But there is no food offered. And they would likely frown upon eating during the tour. Eat before.

I presume you will be docking in Russell so would be quite a drive 1.5 hours each way I would think. Our tour only started at 6pm so that wouldn't work for you. You don't have to do a tour you could always hire a car and... More
