Bacarra Church, founded by the Augustinians in 1590, is a National HistoricalLandmark and a National Cultural Treasure. It is known for its centuries-old, domeless or "beheaded" belfry known as Torre ti Bacarra, a 160 ft high structure. Periodic #earthquakes from 1931 to 1971 caused the dome to start leaning, eventually, toppled by a 7.8-magnitude temblor in 1983.

I guess, since we saw the Paoay Church the day before, I felt underwhelmed by this church. This was not on my list of places to go to but we stopped for a bit here for pictures with the bell tower (another one again). The color of the brick exterior was great for pictures and the interior of the Church... More

Bacarra is the town north of Laoag. It takes less than 20 minutes to go there. You can pass by the town on the way further up north. The Bacarra church is a Roman Catholic Church inaugurated in 1782 and declared a National Cultural Treasure in 1973. It is under the patronage of St. Andrew the Apostle, whose image The... More

In the last 300 years, Bacarra has had multiple earthquakes so St Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church is not just a declared Filipino national treasure but a partly reconstructed survivor to boot. The 30 year old restoration used building materials indistinguishable from the original to a layman's eye like mine. The church has a simple altar while a large statue... More

If you are going to the beaches of Pagudpud from Laoag, I suggest you go the route Bacarra (Bacarra Church) – Pasuquin (Pasuquin Bakery) - Burgos (Burgos Lighthouse) – Bangui (Bangui Windmills) - Pagudpod. Bacarra Church should be included in your itinerary as the church is a declared national cultural treasure. The oldies and I also love the pattern of... More
