Dropped daughter off for a kids birthday party. On collection I saw her waiting with the other kids ready to be collected from the car park so I left my vehicle not fully within a bay. When I turned around there was a parking warden issuing a ticket, I couldn't have been more than 3 minutes so they very obviously observe and then run to issue fines. When I challenged him about his behaviour he said I wouldn't get a fine for not having a ticket due to grace period but because my rear wheel wasn't within a bay he issued a fine. Be warned here. I just paid the fine as I couldn't argue the case. My anger was that these robotic people don't seem to have any common sense at all. This person blatantly saw what I was doing and that I was only collecting a child. He very obviously ran to my car as he wouldn't have been able to take it easy due to the very short period of time I left the car, literally minutes. It's things like this that makes me utterly despise the local council and the fat cats in charge.

I walked from Stannington and was pretty soaked through by the time I got to Plessay Woods. I was delighted to fid the cafe open and ordered a coffee and a muffin. Both were excellent and very reasonably priced. The young lady who served me was very pleasant and helpful - which makes such a difference. She was happy to discuss opening times and recommended soup next time I call in. I will do so as the cafe was much better than expected. Please ay a visit and help to keep it open. The lady at Bolam cafe could learn a thing or two about service from here!

Beautiful country park on reclaimed land, very scenic. Visitor centre is only open weekends in winter but toilets available all year round. Modest parking charge for access to lovely varied woodland.

We visited here on a spur of the moment on Father's Day. Despite it being really busy we managed to get parked no problem. Really enjoyed the walk around. Only bad point was the sheer amount of Dog Poo lying around. Most owners of dogs that we seen on the day were cleaning up after them however it is clear not everybody does! Its a bit of a shame really.
We will be back up at some point to explore more of it though

We visit regularly as it's perfect for getting us city folk out of the smoke and into the fresh air.
We've seen a red squirrel and a young deer on previous visits though it's best to go outside of the more popular Sunday morning walks as there are more dogs and children around, quite rightly!
The main walk is pretty easy though prepare yourself for the steep steps up at the end of the walk (assuming you do it clockwise).
No charge in, just for parking.

The park is some lovely land set inside a small woodland and ex quarry. A great place to walk the dog.
Beware however, you get 1 hour of parking for free but after that the on site warden will be out within seconds to ticket your car. I was 10 minutes late back because my partner had to rest up after a bit of a hike up a hill. We got tickets minutes after the time expired. Not to mention the only parking ticket you can buy is 2 hours. What if I wanted to stay for only 30 minutes? Despicable to be honest, it was our first visit as well. Needless to say we likely won't be returning unless we find somewhere more agreeable to park.

I often visit plessey woods and take my sons dog. There are various walks that are clearly sign posted. Sadly the local council have decided to reinstate parking charges for a stay of over an hour hopefully this doesn’t deter visitors

We visited with the dog today and enjoyed a walk though the woods.
Loved the wood sculptures and wild garlic.
Shame on the people who had peft a dog shut in the car. Was there when we arrived and still there 90 minutes later when we left. my husband went to the visitors centre to see if they could report this. 18c outside and even with windows left down, the dog was stressed and noisy.
Will people never learn, and why take your dog to a Country Park and shut it in the car!!!

Lovely place for a walk, dog friendly with ample car park and toilet facilties on site. Even on a wet, muddy day this is a beautiful place to walk and we will certainly return to this hidden treasure !

Can you take a small BBQ here?
Thanks 😊

Yes I believe you can. Last time I visited there were some designated bbq areas so you should be fine.
