Excellent place for everyone
Parking is 4 dollars. The beach is calm and perfect for kids or grownups. There are huge Boulders blocking the big waves from the ocean. I loved this place. ❤ would definitely come back. You can climb the rocks for a perfect view of the beach and the ocean on the other side. Bring water shoes they help allot some areas are rocky.

On Day 4 of our family vacation, we decided to visit two “must see” beaches in Puerto Rico - Puerto Nuevo and nearby Mar Chiquita (see separate review of Mar Chiquita and Luquillo Beach). We visited Playa Puerto Nuevo first. This beach must’ve been recently renamed as most locals refer to it as “Vega Baja Beach” after the town in wilhich it’s located. There is a large parking area which cost about $2 or $3 to park on our Thursday visit.

This beach has imposing limestone rock formations on the right side that serve as a natural barrier. The ocean waves crash against this rock formation. You feel as if the ocean wants to get at you but the limestone formations guard you. I wish I could share video clips. A large natural wading pool is created by the waves that do get thru. The average depth was about 4-5 feet but I’m sure this ranges with the tide. If you want to climb the rocks, it is highly suggested that you use water socks as the rocks are sharp. The effect of the waves smashing against the limestone must be even more dramatic during high tide (look up video of this online if you can).

On the left side is a more traditional calm-water, family friendly beach. My sons loved this beach as did the wife and I. We came here during a weekday and it was quite empty. Lots of space between beachgoers. It was quiet, peaceful and beautiful and the bathrooms were clean. We had a great time. After a few hours we left to visit Mar Chiquita and came right back after being at MC for all of 30 minutes. I only marked it as 2-3 hours bc I’m the type that gets bored after that much time. Beach lovers could easily stay longer.

- No lifeguards or lifeguard stands
- $2-3 weekday parking
- Free showers
- Free bathrooms
- No food vendors
- Clean beach
- Clean water
- No solicitors on beach

1st beach visited during family vacation & was amazed by the beauty, cleanliness & tranquility of this beach location. To start, $4 parking, free beach entrance, free outdoor beach showers, local vendors, beach umbrella & chair rentals and “helado” vendors providing beach sales as you enjoy the sun & water. Great Time by all in the family.

Fun beach with lots of good raggaeton music but the locals in this area were not as warm toward mainland Americans. If you do not know Spanish this area might not be as fun for you

Vega Baja Puerto Nuevo Beach, is one of the most beautiful beach in Puerto Rico. Nice to go with the family and with kids. For young kids, you can go to La Pocita, is a close area ready for kids. You can climb the big rocks on the beach and see a breathtaking view of the beach.

If you like adventures, you can walk from the beach to the River mouth. You have to walk more than 40 minutes but is a different place, Never go alone. there is a Restaurant in that area.

This was one of the most beautifully exquisite beaches I’ve ever been to and I’ve traveled fairly extensively within the Caribbean.

The sand was pristine and I could see my toe nail polish perfectly in the water. It was crystal clear blue. The current was strong but still swimmable

in March 2021, I’d consider this factor with smaller children depending on the time of year. Personally, I’d say this time of year isn’t safe for small children but each person would have to decide what’s right for them.

I think this is the best beach we went to on our entire trip. It’s undeniably a hidden gem! Well worth the trip.

We drove 1.5 hours each way and I’d have done that every day. The restaurants around the beach are all amazing too,

This is a beautiful beach, friendly for swimmers, and familias with kids. Parking fee is ver low( 3 to 5 us dollars ).
Municipality keeps it clean. Picnic is allowed , some food trucks offer pizza, sea food, burguers, hots, plus local ethnic food: "alcapurrias", "tostones", "pasteles".
It does gets crowded on holidays, weekends.

I grew up in this part of PR. This beach was my backyard for my childhood and teenager years. Love this place. If you can visit, please do so, you will not be disappointed.

We spent the whole morning here! It’s kind of a bay with rock protecting the beach making it great for wading and swimming, there’s also a pretty decent size tide pool where the families and kids were swimming. Easy access with a parking lot, but bring a few dollars. We didn’t pay cause nobody was there but the sign says it costs $2-4 depending on the day of the week!
