Great place for family. Be prepared with bugs repellent and bring cold water because of hot summer. Many birds, trees, bugs and you may see some small alligators at the lake. Free parking.

I visited on 1/26/19. Many forested areas in PR are still not fully open since Huricane Maria and this one is also the same. We arrived at the main entrance on a Saturday around 2 pm (GPS coordinates 18.4611260, -66.4224933) and the gate was closed and said "no entrar." However, there were two other cars parked on the street in front so we decided to park near them and investigate for an entrance on foot. We did find a spot which was a gap in the fence large enough to enter, so we walked in. The road to enter is completely cleared so I don't know why the entrance was closed. Once inside, we saw the parking lot was cleared except a couple spots which clearly still had some hurricane debris piled up. There was a family having a picnic, a man kayaking, and a couple fishing. We walked through the parkng lot until the end, and the walking paths started there. The walking paths were also very cleared so we walked a total of 3.5 miles, 1.75 miles each way. We could have gone further but we didn't expect them to be so clear so we didn't have proper shoes or water. The one negative is that the walking path doesn't go near the lagoon. So this is not a waterfront walk but it is a nice, safe hike. Hopefully they will open it back up officially soon.

This natural reserve is kind of unique because comprehends a forest with a lagoon full of fresh water instead of sea water. You can safely do several options here: walking, biking, fishing, exploring, picnic, kayaking and so forth. You can start your free day here doing some exploration, then do a good picnic and finally, after the sun shies down, move to Puerto Nuevo beach just some 7 minutes away driving your car. I organized myself several tours with my church youth and friends always being succesful having a great time.

I passed by and decided to enter with my teen son. We both fall in love with it. People go to the place to go fishing, though it is a great place to a relaxing time or do some excising. It has different hiking trails and at the top a breathtaking view. It is free! If you are planning to go and use one of the gazebos and you party if higher of 10, you must have a special permission. Since our first visit, that place has become in a family favorite. My teenagers like to bring their friends for hiking. This is one of the jewels from PR that you don't need to spend money to have fun and be in contact with the nature world. Highly recommended.

This nature preserve has a parking area and little dock you can walk out on for a good view. People fish here often, and there is a bait shop. But come here at night with a good flashlight, and you will see the eyes of several caymen.

Due to college purposes, me and three classmates, went there to look for info.; and explored around, and I have to say that the place is huge and beautiful. Worthy as a ecotourism destination.

This was our first time visiting this area and we were glad to find it clean and in good condition. I have heard about Laguna Tortuguero many years ago because of the caymans people once had as pets and when they grew up they released them in the area. There is a pinic area and benches to sit and relax and enjoy the view of the lagoon. Close to it in a hidden private farm is Manantial de Vega Baja or Manantial de Tortuguero. To get there you may park at the side of the road or at nearby little bar called Los Caimanes. From the road is a 3-5 min walk to the Manantial. I was there with my daughter and a friend of hers. Immediately after arriving, I was moving a little closer to take a picture when a cayman of about 4 ft long got out of the pasture and jumped into the water. We immediately got back to our car!! So beware of caymans if you go to Tortuguero!!! They are real!!!
