Frankly, a bit underwhelming. We had previously (in earlier years) visited Figueres and Port Ligat. Both of these places gave you a feel for Dali and Gala, and their lives. Castell de Pubol felt like 'somewhere where someone once lived' and seemed souless, put together without much thought, and really, nothing special. The gardens are gloomy and overgrown, nothing like they originally were designed to be. A bit of a disappointment really.

The blasons (shields) salon was impressive, but the whole house is really unique!
He even painted her kitchen dishes! Amazing...
The fact that the whole house (or almost) is wheelchair accessible, made the visit even more pleasant.

Not to be missed! Even if we loved the Dali museum in Figueres, we loved this place more!!!
You visit the private home of the Dali/Gala couple, and perhaps you get to slightly better understand what an exceptional pair of humans they were.
Ending the tour in the crypt and standing quietly and alone by their sarcophagues were very gripping.

In a very small, typical village. Chateau in the heart of the village. Easy access parking. Price of the visit €9 via internet €11 if on site for the normal adult place. Allow one hour maximum for this very intimate visit to this residence of the Dali couple. To do again

Site that we visit rather quickly especially as there is little information on what we see. If Púbol is on your route, you shouldn't hesitate to go there, but I don't think it's worth making a big detour (from Figueras for example). After the crazy exuberance of the museum-theater, the Château de Gala is a little disappointing.

The last piece of the jigsaw for us, and although a small castle, the setting is picture postcard perfect and the house contains Dali memorabilia unique to the location.
Not as busy as other Dali former homes, so was able to really take our time and enjoy both the castle and the village. Both are well worth a visit.

My husband and I were wondering for a while if we need to buy tickets to this place in advance (online). We didn’t know the exact time we would arrive so we didn’t book anything. At the end, it was really not necessary. We came to Púbol at 11 AM in November. The castle had only a few visitors. It was quiet and nice. I wouldn’t call it a castle exactly. It’s more like a big mansion with a nice garden. In the garden you will find some Dali’s statues (favorite were, of course, the elephants). The place where the museum is located is a tiny village with nothing going on. We did enjoy it though and spend a wonderful hour there. I recommend to visit it if you are planning to go to Figueres on the same day (which we did). Beautiful peaceful place and fair price to enter.

Holy smokes.
To state my biases straight out, I'm not a huge museum guy -- call me what you will, but if it's not the Met in NY, the British Museum, or the Louvre, and it's not raining cats & dogs, I'd much rather do something (anything) else, particularly if it's a museum devoted to a single artist, which is usually a much larger display of ego than of art.
But WOW!
The Dali Museum is simply overwhelming, and you must go, even if you hate museums or surrealism or both.
There are many famous works, including the monumental "Rainy Cadillac" (Dali's '41 Caddy convertible with a fat lady on the hood, dummy passengers getting rained on inside, and a boat on a flagpole high overhead); the Palace of the Wind room with its magnificent ceiling fresco; and the ever popular Mae West room; but in a sense the Museum as a whole is itself a work of art -- maybe even Dali's masterpiece -- because it, and everything in it, was conceived and designed by the artist himself as a collective sensory experience -- a Cliff's Notes of surrealism, if you will. Dali literally gave this project his "all" -- he's buried here, and his grave lies among the exhibits!
Don't forget the jewelry collection (included in admission price) -- not really jewelry so much as sculpture using gold & precious stones as the media of expression -- magnificent stuff.
There is little other reason to visit Figueres, IMO, but this museum is more than enough reason all by itself.
Stay at the El Moli bed-and-breakfast nearby (see my review), and drink it all in. It's an experience simply not to be missed.

Using Calella de Parafrugel as a base, we were able to visit Pubol, Figueres, and Cadaqués. Three very different sites and all were highlights of our trip. The Castella and it's setting are so charming, tucked into a small village. 15th C. walls hide the fantasy-world of Dali's art and love for Gala.

If you're a Dali fan I think this one is a must. Wandering around this castle that he bought for his wife is a bit like taking a trip back in time.
The site is wonderfully preserved and cared for and easy to wander around. Like a lot of old buildings there are lots of steps. narrow passageways and low doors, but it's all part of the charm.
I would have liked to have had the option of a guided tour, or some sort of audio guide - but the only option was a printed guide. This was easy to follow however, and each nominated place is clearly marked so no problems matching the spot with the text.
Do take a wander in the garden, and look out for the spindly-legged elephants! It's a wonderful spot and well worth a visit.

Are there day tours from Barcelona to Castell de Pubol?

Unrelated to the museum itself, but if anyone can help, there is a tiny orange kitten in the parking area by the stairs that is terribly ill with infections in both eyes and trouble breathing. I hated to leave the poor thing as it was suffering but I had no means to help. Locals did not seem interested in helping. Please if someone can just lookout for this little kitty and take it to a shelter or a veterinarian.

Very kind of you to think about the kitten. When I visited the place early October I did not see the kitten. I assume you visited recently. I hope someone from the village takes care of it.

Добрый день. Подскажите как добраться до городка на общественном транспорте из Ллорет-де-Мар?
Written 5 May 2017
Is it easy to get there by train from Barcelona? The website says take a taxi from Flaca (4kms) - Im wondering how easy it is to find taxi given its the countryside.

We had a car so didn't check on cabs. It is in the middle of no where but worth it. Good luck

How long does it take to see this once you get there?
Written 24 April 2015
Yes, about an hour. If you have decided to combine this with a visit to the Dali Theatre-Museum, better not waste much time in the house Gala-Dali, because in Figures exhibition is huge and its careful examination may take you five hours. We went with a rental car and it was a great solution, so we saved a lot because we were 5 people and costs were much less than the sightseen tours of the travel agents.
