Stopped here on our road trip around the island - it was very crowded because there was some sort of "American" festival happening on July 3rd, so we had to park a ~10 min walk away. The lighthouse was cool to see and there is a small plaque with descriptions in English, French, and Tahitian. The black sand beaches are not very big but there were a lot of people swimming.

Monuments for Captain Bligh and Captain Cook. The light house is 8 + floors high. The beach has black sand with many swimmers.

Point Venus and it’s lighthouse erected in 1867 (and the little craft market). A lovely area, for a walk enjoying the lushness of the gardens. We even managed to use the last francs we had on us to buy another one of a kind/carved from a shell ring to go with a necklace and earrings and a polished oyster shell with a maybe pearl on it. Fabulous finds, we loved the little craft markets along the island circuit.

I was very excited to come here due to the assoc with capt James Cook, who stopped here on the Endeavour... but there is so much more! This park has a number of monuments and commemorative markers, such as the first missionaries, the anchoring of the bounty before the bounty, the transit of Venus, and Robert Louis Stevenson who lived here while his father engineered the tower in 1788.
There are a number of small outriggers hauled out of the water and small fish. We had a wee swim in the water at the end of the point and it was exceptionally warm... but please excuse the rubbish in the water. It needs cleaning up!

Very nice dark sand beach. Shallow water great for kids. Some good snorkelling just 50 meters from the beach. Lagoon has great colours with nice views over Tahiti and Moorea. Nice park with small playground too.
We stayed in Papeete for 2 weeks and went to the Pointe Venus beach almost everyday for a swim and pique-nique.
Make sure you stop on the lookout on top of the hill before driving down towards Mahina.

We walked here (!) from Arue and were delighted as there was more than "just the car park" we had been led to believe. There are the monuments (Cook, Bounty, missionaries) and the light house, but there was also a couple of food trucks, a beach cafe, and table tennis. Lots of sets under shady trees, plenty of families just enjoying a day at the beach and wedding parties using the lighthouse as a backdrop. We expected to see the lighthouse, pay homage to Cook and Bligh, but sat under a tree for half an hour and watched real Tahitian families enjoying the day. As we did too.

Pointe Venus Lighthouse dominates this area of Matavai Bay. There is a little bit of history, a beautiful view, and shopping. Captain Cook and William Bligh both anchored here and there is a monument that commemorates Captain Cook's visit. There is also a pathway you can walk and enjoy the water views and see the black sand beach of the bay. There are a lot of vendors here where you can buy crafts and souvenirs and food. Public restrooms are available.

Nice looking lighthouse still operable per tour guide, memorial to the ship the Bounty, black sand beach. Definitely worth the visit, especially if you love lighthouses.

Short stop to view old lighthouse that is in good shape.
Site of landing for a number of explorers including Cook and Bly.

We visited on a cloud/rainy day so there was that much here to do other than just take a short walk - but as mentioned before me by other fellow TA members; plenty of possibilities, walking, beach chilling, some souvenir shopping and some cultural/music events
TIP: big parking lot but I can see how fast this can feel up on a nice day, there are also public restrooms here
