This church (Vaftizci Yahya Kilisesi) is in the small town of Cavusin. When you are in the town look up to the East and you can easily spot this church. As you walk up the hill towards it you will be running through the gauntlet of vendors - just politely decline and visit them after. At the end of the... More

The history of the church goes back too long ago for that resson ıt ıs soo ımportant to vısıt the sıght autentıc frecos made by men. that leaves you wıth a unıc art experıence. that not easy to fınd anymore. not easy to fınd now days

It is the oldest church in the area. There is a climb up the stairs 60 stairs or so. Then a little walk with a gorgeous view. You should be careful though. The last few steps are on a very narrow path.

One of the oldest Christian churches in cappadocia. It's a climb and slight tricky. But it's a true gem.

The church is easily accessible from the parking lot of the small village of Cavusin. If you are hiking in the rose and red valley I highly recommend you rend your hike here for a breather and walk around the village after some rest. I climbed up the stairs and went on top of the hill to get amazing views... More

The church of St. John the Baptist is reached from the road with easy parking after a short climb up some stairs passing a small and interesting mosque. The hill is crumbling in places and the visit should be taken with care. There are some faded frescos and carvings. There is a beautiful view from the top.

Fill in your history with this attraction. So much of the start of Christianity is here. Go early or late in the day.

Well worth the climb up from Cavusin for the views and to visit the cave rooms and Church. Take a torch (for all the places you'll visit in Cappadocia) to better view the frescoes and for exploring tunnels and the more hidden rooms.

I loved this place. I had a great time spent exploring the abandoned village and church. Lots of great photo opportunities, and not very busy place. Nice to get away from the crowds. And it's free!
