Miner's House
Miner's House

About
The miner's house was built at the end of the 18th century and has preserved the main features of typical Idrija architecture and living culture of the past. The structure of the house, except for the foundataions and cellar, is built almost entirely of wood, while the roof is covered with fir boards – »sinklni«. The ground floor is furnished in the style of the first half of the 20th century.

Although the mines are a UNESCO site. There really isn’t much to see if you have seen other mines. If you happen to be passing by do call in. The tours of the mines are guided so check before to see when they start.

This review s'not for the Miner's house, but for the Quecksilberbergwerk Idrija. In the Miner's house you get to see how the life of the Idrija miners looked like, and where they lived. You do not go in to the mine there!
The entrance in to the mine is called Anthony's Main Road.
Miner's house is opened every day from 9:00 till 16:00.

We went on a lace festival day, when the house was open and free. The young lady then gave us a personal tour in excellent English. The ground floor was the the only one fully furnished, but it was very interesting and she was a mine of information about Idrija (bad pun intended). Also a really nice house from the outside.

Only the ground floor is furnished, but it is interesting. just next door to the Francis Mine. You need to book a visit with a guide from the Castle Museum ... really no hassle here and worth doing all three small museums (House, Francis and Wheel) to help you really get an understanding of the workings of the mine.
