On the way back from Hadrian's Wall we passed though the village of Lanercost and couldn't help but notice an imposing apparently derelict building through the trees. After about a mile an imposing entrance and a clutch of contemporary buildings appeared. It declared itself to...More

This church is worth it just to see the piece of embroidery at the back of the altar designed by Morris. It was also a good idea to have the boards which showed the history, how it was cleaned and restored and illustrated the detail...More

Attended a Sunday morning service, which on this occasion had an African theme. It was very interesting, thought-provoking and well planned. The vicar and members of the congregation were welcoming and we enjoyed drinks and cakes with them after the service.

I love history & art work and this church doesn't disappoint. A must stop if visiting the priory. Its free, but they want donations.

Beautiful church with lots of history. Set in lovely Lanercost. There were even local jams and crafts to buy. Love the honesty box!

We came to visit the church and the priory together. The church itself is a beautiful, historical building with a very friendly attendant.

I did not find this church as interesting as the priory ruins. However, I would recommend visiitng for the stained glass windows (designed by Edward Burne-Jones and William Morris), the "Arts and Crafts" furnishings (Anthony Salvin and Charles Ferguson) and the exterior.

Part of the Lanercost Priory, this is a local Parish church. I attended a special Eucharist service there to mark the start of the Lanercost Music Festival. Wonderful singing from the congregation and the choir. Everyone made me feel very welcome.
