This is a hidden gem. The place is testament to the ingenuity of the engineers of the early nineteenth century. It’s awesome. And run by friendly people.

A pleasant and attractive flight of ten locks, it is apparently the longest flight of “staircase” locks in the country. For the uninitiated, that means that one lock leads directly in to the next, i.e.; the exit gates of one are also the entrance gates...More

We were looking for things to do in the area and Foxton Locks popped up on trip advisor. We were curious, so came to investigate. It’s a fascinating place, full of history and great way to show engineering in action to the children. Will be...More

Absolutely love going here, always fascinates us how the boats negotiate the locks. Plenty of places to eat; a sausage roll and cake in the cafe or a 3 course meal in the pub on the waterside, all have outside seating and are dog friendly....More

What a lovely afternoon, wandering up the towpath then back again, watching the narrowest boats working their way through the locks. Sometimes they’re helped by toddlers ‘opening the gates’ as the grown-ups watch... You can take a picnic and eat your sandwiches overlooking the canals...More
