Its quite a bit of a trek to get here and whilst some people are professing to walk here be aware that it would be a hell of a walk over poor, dusty, hot, uneven ground where you will be a long way from anywhere or anything (don't expect toilets etc) and make sure you bring plenty water.
I traveled by car and even then it was a lengthy journey culminating in a bit of a "so what".
Yes beautiful views and a wind blown tree, the likes of which are available all over the island without traversing a few miles of dirt track, I certainly wouldn't pay for a tour to go there, I most definitely didn't consider the journey to be worth the experience.

I drove from Frontera to see these trees. Previously all the roads I'd driven on El Hierro had been great. This one however, for the last 5-10k was little more than a dirt track. My recommendations are to take a guide, take a robust vehicle or, like I did, leave your car and walk the last wee bit, although not terribly well sign posted. Worth it, but not easy to get to!

The Hoya del Pino forest is a must. Beautifully kept. Area for picnics and bathrooms. Fantastic walks.

The approach road is a bumpy track that brings you to a small car park. People arrive, take a photo of a roped off tree, get back in their car and drive off....madness! It will have most likely taken you an hour to drive there, so explore the surroundings, it's stunning. We walked through an open gate (behind and 70yds left of the main tree) and walked for 45 minutes along a well marked path towards the coast. Hundreds of windswept Junipers and just lovely scenery, so take a water bottle and a picnic, enjoy.

You need to drive about 5 km on a dirt road with a pretty good surface (at least when we visited in February). There is are several trails, not all that well marked that take you by many of these twisted and "blown over" juniper trees. One trail also goes to the impressive Mirador de Bascos which is about 1.5km away. Near the parking lot is the most famous tree seen on many brochures as well as 20-30 other ones. The wind has caused them to grow sideways and down and thus have such a strange appearance. The weathered trunks can be very twisted and beautiful. The landscape is fairly dramatic as well, on a moderate slope with the ocean always in the background. Somewhat reminiscent of the Bristlecone Pine forest in western US although the latter we found to be much more impressive and scenic. Still, very much worth the visit and walk if you like nature and unusual trees.

You really must visit this area if you visit El Hierro , it´s a symbol of the island. We took a very steep and twisty road to get here from the North West of the island and on our first day on the roads of El Hierro in a Fiat 500! To enhance the experience we did it on the only windy and rainy day we had during our stay , it was scary! I would choose another route which approaches El Sabinar from the centre of the island. We left our little car at the entrance to the dirt road down to the trees ( which are ancient and tortured junipers). This proved to be great , a 3 and a half KM walk down and back up through lovely fields and open spaces ( the weather up on top of the island had improved greatly. From this area you can access lots of the other sights in the mountains. Really , don´t miss it!

Not sure how this tree became so famous... it's, literally, a bended tree in the middle of other tons of (bended or not) trees!

it takes time to arrive to this place, but is so amazing! The wind shaped the trees like sculptures and the ocean makes the atmosphere surreal

El acceso en coche, puede ser con coche propio? O sólo con los taxis que he leído que te llevan hasta allí?

Alguien sabe si es que el parque cierra de noche? Quiero ir a hacer fotografía nocturna y no he podido encontrar esa información. Gracias!
Does anyone know if the park closes at night? I'd like to do some night photography over there and haven't been able to find the information. Thanks!

Hello. We would like to visit the area by foot, where do you suggest to park the car? And how long will take the “tour”? Thank you :)

puoi parcheggiare ovunque tutto dipende da quanto volete camminare io se dovessi tornare lascerei la macchina alla chiesetta ovviamente solo se siete camminatori mi raccomando l acqua non se ne trova e il territorio è molto arido
