So what do you get for your money?
Entrance to a hot room, where there are a few of the island's larger lizards. I saw 3, each about a foot long, curled up, some distance away behind the glass screens.
You cannot linger, if you really want to drool over them, as you are part of a tour group - so there is some jostling for space close to the screens. But you wouldn't want to - it is hot & stifling in the rooms.
The tours are at fixed times, which is an issue for people turning up a few minutes after one starts, or needing to get away. Plus of course you have to listen to the tour guide give her speech, even if you don't understand Spanish.
There are also about a dozen structures & single room buildings, fitted out as how peasants lived over the past couple of hundred years. You don't get to go past the doorway, and they generally did not have windows, so pretty dim.
The entire tour is delivered in Spanish, although there is an information sheet in various languages covering some history of the island.
What could be done better? Any lizard display I've ever seen is better - your local pet shop is better. There is no need for the tour guide around the houses, simple plaques with info on what you are actually looking at would be more use.

The site, including the descent into a volcanic tunnel, the discovery of the ancient pueblo and the vivarium allowing the perpetuation of the El Hierro lizard is very interesting.
The visit (paid) and the guidance are mediocre.
The guide does not speak any language other than Spanish and "ignores" tourists of other languages. She speaks quickly.
The vivarium would be interesting and there should be respectful silence there (it's displayed large), but everyone moves, talks and laughs, guiding her first.
For those who have paid for the visit and who do not know Spanish, there is no support in the old "pueblo" although it is very interesting (equipment a bit "mess")
The little paper in German is deplorable and no longer makes sense!
Too bad they don't provide QR code terminals.

We were advised to go here with our 4and 8 year old kids. Turns out under 6 can not go into the cave. Fortunately my partner and daughter managed to join a group going in so no wait needed, me and my boy killed time outside until the group came out, probably about 25 minutes. We all then went to see the lizards, as previously mentioned, too much jostling for a look through the glass to see a hand full of lizards. Tour guide spoke only Spanish which was fine as my partner speaks it and there was a handout given with sone basic info. For me to see the cave I would have had to wait for another group to form but decided not to as my boy was particularly bored.

A bit of a random visit: a geological exploration of a volcano tunnel, a giant lizard saving project and a sort of reconstracted old village. The visit includes all 3 and you can't pick just one, so if you're not interested in lizards, for instance, you still have to go through the entire explanation and waif 40 minutes for the next activity.
It's all fairly interesting, but I'd prefer to split the entire expirience in 3 parts and do only the one/s you mostly enjoy.

Considering the distances and the roads in the island , they really need to change the silly method to admit visitors. We have driven for 1 hr to reach it, then the lady at the desk (who obiouvsly did not speak english, I mean... neither within a touristic attraction...) informed us that due to Covid matters the lagartario for that day was full. I then asked “ok so, we’ll be back tomorrow, at what time can we book the entrance?” And the answer was that they don’t make reservations.
This is nonsense. No one can just go there hoping to be lucky to make it though the entrance. We ended up avoiding to visit it.
Very badly managed.

Beautiful place, lot to see and learn about the island, residents, traditions and unique animals.
Glen was kind enough to explain everything especially for me as I was the only one not speaking Spanish in the group. I am so grateful that I met they guide, Glen. He is a awonderful person, knowledgeable and kind. His guidance and translation made my day at the museum just perfect! Thank you Glen!

Very complete attraction with volcanic tube, Guinea houses and lizard. The very professional and expert guide throughout the park. It is worth waiting for the guided tour because of everything you learn to further appreciate what they are doing for the island of El Hierro and what this place represents for the locals.

I visited the Lagartario on a very windy day on which I couldn't go cycling, the place was half closed due to the safety conditions inside the park, but I could visit the animals cages and listen to the guide telling all about this lizard and the life on El Hierro. Recommended visit, but you need to have a car or a bike to get there from Frontera.

Brilliant place, my favourite place to go with the El Hierro passport so far. The El Hierro passport was 17 euros but gives you access to several museums and centres across the island including the Garoe tree, volcanology centre, El Julian and Guinea as well as some smaller places.

The traditional houses are self guided. There are about sixteen houses that have been restored so you can see how they would have lived. My favourite was the wine bodega! The previous day we did a “route of the water” walk with Atlantidea where we saw another abandoned village, this museum gave us the opportunity to see the houses as they would have been.

Then the lava tube and gas bubble cave. You wear a helmet for the 100 metre trip but it is great, you really can imagine the lava creating this space.

After that, the lizard breeding centre. Very cute lizards that were on the brink of extinction but saved due to this project.

The lava tour is in Spanish but there is a print out available in English. The lizard area has displays in English, Spanish and German.

Definitely recommend.

We had a fantastic trip to this venue, saw the lava tubes, the giant Lizards. The museum has actual houses that people lived in..Life was unbelievable hard. Our Giuide was most informative and it made it better that her mother had lived in one of these houses. Even in my lifetime I am 67 the changes that this island has seen, and the hardship the people endured is fascinating. It was ironic that the reception had free wifi. Which we all take for granted. Water was a luxury for them. A lot seemed to change in the fifties when much of the population left for Cuba and later Vensuala to work in the oil indusrtyDo t miss out on this fascinating place.
