The most unexpected surprise was marvelous Isaac Cardoso Jewish Interpretation Centre. Walking around this small middle ages place is like time travel. Trancoso can be good base for exploration of Portugal interior.
We stumbled upon this castle by accident and it is in great condition and well looked after - including stairs to the highest tower with amazing views. Well worth a visit and the town is very pretty too!

This castle has seen its share of fighting. Must see when passing through Trancoso. Not much left except for its keep and walls. The stares running up have the dates mentioned in a ver special way, see photos. Wheelchair friendly.
Free visit to the castle. It has a very long history, having been first established in the 10th century. It has been rebuilt due to invasion damage in the past. Regardless, to see and set foot in something that was in place for 1100+ years...More
I wasn't expecting much and i was surprised. It«s free and there is a person there who explains you everything and delivers some helpful leaflets. The place is very well mantained and the view from the upper tower amazing.
