Yes it’s touristy and cheesy but it’s also a must do in the region. A few pints in Nellies and a wander round the excellent Folk Park and you’ve had a great day.

The Castle itself was a fabulous evening. Everything trip advisor says...EXCEPT watch your time scheduled! After being advised by multiple emails to/from trip advisor of the exact time to arrive..we arrived at time told only to find we had been booked for the earlier banquet. Had it not been for this lovely castle to accommodate us with a tour group attending later banquet we would have missed out entirely...just double check time you are booked for

This was a very fun experience. A lovely trip back in time, not pretentious, just fun, good food, lovely hosts, very charming, and who doesn't want dinner in a castle? I personally LOVED the mead (honey wine), but I seemed to be in the minority. Also, I went alone, which was a little awkward, everyone else was with family groups or couples. It is definitely a 'touristy' thing to do which I usually don't do, but it would be a blast with friends.

My family and I planned our dream trip to Ireland last year and it was unfortunately cancelled twice (once in March and again in May) due to the COVID global health crisis. Given that we have no foreseeable date to reschedule due to safety concerns for our daughter who is a bone marrow and stem cell transplant patient, I contacted Shannon Heritage to request a refund of our Bunratty Castle admission costs for my husband, myself, daughter, and son. They were very quick with their reply which is the only positive thing I can relay. They were adamant about their "no refunds" policy even in the wake of a pandemic. They offered to "hold" the admission for 12 months however, we are not able to currently begin to rebook the trip and the likelihood, given our children's school schedule and our work schedules of rebooking the trip is very low. I understand having a policy in place but I am certain that policy was not written with the effects of a global pandemic in mind. A bit of compassion and awareness for something other than their profits would have been appreciated. Other attractions, such as the Cliff of Moher, offered full refunds without hesitation. If we ever do get lucky enough to rebook this trip, we will not be visiting any of the Shannon Heritage attractions.

My wife and I finished seeing the Cliffs of Moher and new we had just enough time to make this banquet. We wondered about the late start time but looked on TripAdvisor website to confirm it states operates nightly at 20:45. So we started our drive and got to the castle a little after 8 and walked up to see two women looking the gate. We asked if this is where the banquet was being held. They said it was already done. She asked my name and she told me that we were booked for the earlier show. It would have been nice to get some type of notification of this. I don’t know who should have notified me but someone should have. Not a good way to run this type of entertainment. Below is a picture of the show booking on TripAdvisor.

Without doubt the most important building in 20th century Irish history. On Easter Sunday 1916 a small group of Irish middle class intellectuals led by Patrick Pearce stood outside this building and read a proclamation to the bewildered citizens of Dublin. What followed next, changed the shape and political future of Ireland. With the GPO Witness Visitor centre this is a must see attraction for anyone interested in modern Irish history. Still a working Post Office, the building was reconstructed after its almost total destruction following the events of Easter 1916. Reasonably priced and with multi-media presentations, my wife and I enjoyed it immensely.

Banquet was a nice experience as was the entertainment. If you're looking for a 5 star meal this is not the place to go.

The Shannon Heritage is the folk park around the Bunratty Castle. It was interesting to see the history and homesteads of the people who lived here.

NOTE: I have been to Bunratty and it was worth the trip.
This review is about that Shannon Heritage website. GET YOURSELVES UPDATED.
Says that Dunguaire Castle is open year round for Banquet event. Not true. Same for others of your properties.
Also, there is a real lack of any useful information on the site. Lots of "More Information" that doesn't open up to anything. Some info refers to events/times from 2016.
And, even if the venue had really been open, it is not handicapped accessible, which in this day and age is somewhat shocking.
I love Ireland and have been there countless times. Websites like these are not helpful and can actually turn off tourists.

We went to Malahide Castle for a tour on the last day of our Irish holiday. I didn't realise that it went back so far - to the Normans and the first Talbot family. There were some very unique historical artifacts in the castle and the description of how the first inhabitants only lived in a single small room was fascinating.
I am a total sceptic when it comes to the supernatural, but while in the second hall (not the dark one) I was conscious of somebody tugging on my leather jacket. I looked around quickly but nobody was near me. I didn't say anything about it, but smiled at the fact that my imagination was making me think of ghosts, but my rational side kept it quiet.
Then in the final room, the guide started talking about the ghosts that people had been seeing. I'm still not convinced, but I have no explanation for what happened and I'm not going to offer one. I only told my wife about it a couple of weeks later.

Anybody have an idea how much a taxi would cost from the airport--are they available and readily available for the return?

Is this event suitable for a ten year old boy? We're traveling around the area and would really like our son to experience this event ?Thanks in advance .

Yes, very much so. A well restored medieval castle and also a preserved village is a fascinating insight into Irish history. As long as he is not a 10yr old locked to his tablet!

Does a ticket to the dinner include general admission to the park during the day as well?
Written 5 March 2017
No 2 separate prices. We are Aussies and had never done anything like this before. Personally I preferred the dinner to the park. I would go again best interaction I have ever had!
