If you are in Athlone then a visit to this the oldest pub in Ireland (apparently) is a must. Even just sipping your drink there is plenty of stuff on the walls to fascinate you.

A quaint pub, with sawdust on the floor and the floor is sloped, so when the river floods, it can just drain out the back door ..... Cozy and seemed popular with locals, always a good sign ! Oldest pub in Ireland, and has a certificate from Guinness Book of Records to prove it ! Well worth popping in for... More

Charming, friendly and good beer! This is supposed to be Ireland's oldest pub and the interior is cosy and quaint. You feel the warmth of the atmosphere as soon as you open the door. This is the 2nd time I have been and I look forward to many more visits, whenever we are in Athlone.

You can't go to Athlone and not see the oldest bar in Ireland. I do not take alcohol but I just had to pay this place a visit. It is a clever mix of the old and the new. My companions had a drink and they loved it. I love how close it is to the river bank, makes for... More

Dear jacintamsakaia, Thank you for taking the time to review Sean's bar and for your recommendation. We are very fortunate to be located so close to the river Shannon and it's a real popular resting spot for those cruising the river during the year. As you are aware our history dates back to 900 AD so we have quite a... More

This is not your contemporary chilled bar experience, this the exact opposite and so much fun. Sean's bar is a mixture of really old and really new, the original bar at the front is the oldest bar in Ireland and it has music most nights. It does get crowded and noisy but its so enjoyable, busy a friendly and old... More

Typical old Irish bar, a bit messy and eclectic but great atmosphere and great craic! The prices for beer are also pretty good (especially coming from Dublin!)

Nice place with huge smoking area out the back with music and heaters. Great atmosphere. Very deceiving from the front as it looks like a small bar

Had to stop here for a pint. Lots of nick nacks, tons of history and atmosphere to match. Don't worry if you can't stand up after a few drinks, the place is that old the spirit level wasn't invented when it went up. Great place.

Dear al_sharon1990, I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Sean's , especially the nick nacks scattered around the bar as well as the atmosphere of the pub.. There is a reason why the floor slopes from the front of the bar to the back. Whenever the area flooded, the water would flow in the front door and straight out the... More
