I most definitely must have this is the top three activities I got to do in Athlone. It makes for a nice cool cruise along the river and seeing all the plains and catching a view of the countryside was a great experience. Certainly a must do if you are in Athlone,.

We had a fabulous trip on the Viking Boat from Athlone to Clonmacnoise with 26 children from our school. Children (aged 5 to 12) and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the guided tour and interesting commentary from the captain. Lovely boat; safe, warm and comfortable; friendly staff. Free coffee a lovely personal touch.

Fantastic trip!! Our guide was excellent and was very knowledgeable on the history of the area. We took the boat from The Hodson Bay Hotel to Atlone and back. There was a little shop on board which wasnt a rip off. Life jackets provided for everyone which is always imperative, but not always the case. An enjoyable way to spend... More

I don't think I can fault anything about this ship. The room was luxurious , we even had a coffee making machine. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in. There were USB plugs by the bed as well as European and American sockets so I needn't have packed my adapters. The large tv on the... More

We had our big day in Glasson just outside Athlone. Viking Ship picked the group up from the hotel and brought us up the lake (lough rea) and down into the town of Athlone. Water was calm, it was a stunning sunny day and the staff were very helpful. Boat was clean and very comfortable as well as having a... More

We were staying in Hodson's bay hotel. We got Viking ship from here. The hotel give us a voucher which allowed us 50% percent off. It was 12 euros for two. The ship was packed but still we were able to enjoy the informative talk. Overall we were on it for roughly 20 minutes. We enjoyed it.

Toward the end of the season, we were the only ones on board. The lake cruise was very relaxing the the captain provided some interesting background on the various sites. The galley bar came in handy as well.

We took the Viking Cruise from Athlone down to Clonmacnoise for a day trip. I would highly recommend this if you're heading to Athlone, or if you're thinking about visiiting Athlone. Worth the trip. Nice cruise down the Shannon river with commentary and Clonmacnoise is a treasure in it's own right. A Must!
