Viking cruises provided an interesting and relaxing way to visit Clonmacnoise. You learn a lot as you sail the scenic River Shannon, before approaching Clonmacnoise from the water. Plenty of time at the site before returning by bus.

I organised a family fun day with my company, Mike made organising things very easy and everything went very smooth on the day, Mike and George really looked after us on the Viking boat and everyone, adults and kids, had a really wonderful day.

Good value at €12. Each. Trip lasts about 90 minutes and includes lots of interesting information plus complimentary hot drinks. There is also the option to stop off at the Hudson Bay for lunch & get a later return ship

If you call Mick ( his no on the website) he can advise you on the times. The shop downstairs serves snacks, chocolate, tea/ coffee, wine and spirits .

It goes from Athlone to the Hodson Bay Hotel - stops there to pick up passengers and then goes back into Athlone. No stop at Clonmacnoise. 10 Euro per adult / 5 per kid or 30 for family (around 45 Aus $)

The trip from the Hodson Bay to Athlone (or vice versa) is €10 return. It lasts 45 minutes or so each way. And you get to spend enough time in Athlone to visit the wonderful Althone Castle or, at the other end, to have a... More
