I detoured from my journey just to see the interior of this historic church, and it was locked. I had heard about its beautiful stained glass windows, so I was very disappointed. One of the Trip Advisor reviews I just read mentioned that the local 'verger' opened up the church upon request -- who and what is a 'verger'?! The... More

Detoured via Tuam today to visit Cathedral. Not only was it locked, but there was no information as to when it might be open (Wikipedia says Fridays during the summer!) More than anything else, Does Tuam not want tourists?

A hidden gem, located directly adjacent to N17, with free parking. Much of the history of Tuam revolves around St. Mary's Cathedral, a Church of Ireland Cathedral. The site of three cathedrals dating back to the 12th century, when Turlough O'Conor was high King of Ireland. The first cathedral was establishment as the seat of an Archbishop following the Synod... Protestant ctahedral so of course it was locked up tight againt visitors, despite it being the the middle of the day in the height of the tourist season. A disgrace.

An undiscovered gem. It is truely a beautiful building steeped in history. It is not always open but was empty apart from us when we visited. Also home of high cross of Tuam. Hard to find parking close by.

Any visit to Tuam should include a visit to both Cathedrals in the town. This is the Church of Ireland cathedral, locates at the bottom of High street. A building of wonder from my childhood, best appreciated as a adult.

I was here in the company of a retired director of the National Museum, so it was wonderful to see it through his informed eyes. the whole place spoke of the sacred. It is hard to get a key as it is normally closed but one key holder graciously granted us admittance. I had been there for different events, like... More

This church is amazing! There was a beautiful wedding taking place when we saw it. They had a horse drawn carriage and the wedding party looked so nice! What a pretty place!

This cathedral is an absolute delight. It looks like a castle from outside. Its a huge cathedral and and has beautiful paintings and glass windows which look stunning from inside. Its extremely peaceful inside and one can sit for hrs on end.
