Bantry House and Garden is a stately home in southwest Ireland situated right on Bantry Bay with panoramic views of the bay and the caha mountains. The estate is owned by Egerton and Brigitte Shelswell-White and is managed by their daughter Sophie and her partner Josh. It has been in the family since the 1700s. The house contains original furniture and objects d'art. The garden is laid out over 7 terraces with a fountain, large wisteria circle and 100 steps leading up to the woodland. The house, garden and tearoom is open to the public daily from easter to october. The estate hosts weddings, music festivals and fairs. We have a separate review page for our B&B accommodation.

The most interesting historical house I have visited. Packed full of period furniture & artefacts you feel like you have stepped back in time. Brimming with history & boasting stunning seaviews. The family are warm and welcoming. There is a lovely tearoom and ample parking. Do not miss it if you are in the area.

We visited this lovely house and garden overlooking Bantry Bay in September on its " History Comes Alive Weekend", which we all enjoyed immensely. This House is still undergoing tender loving professional restoration, however this only enhances the present experience as the staff and restoration team are always friendly, helpful and happy to talk to you about the House and... Was uncertain about visiting Bantry House but fortunately called in and had a really enjoyable visit that took in the best part of two very enjoyable hours. Make sure to climb the 100 steps and take in the magnificent view of Bantry Bay as you look down on the house. The gardens are formal and superb ... great view out... More

OMG this place is spectacular. The gardens are just amazing. The mansion is partly restored. The heirs live at the property upstairs from the B&B part of the building. The house tour can be guided at certain times or you can self tour. We self toured and found a page description in each room. It was wonderful. The tea room... More

Received a warm welcome to Bantry House in August 2016. Wandered around for the House tour, meeting the owner and having a chat about her very ambitious project to restore the House and massive gardens. The tour was taken by a very entertaining and knowledgeable lady who made the tour so very interesting and down to earth. The interior of... More

Such a beautiful place with amazing views! The gardens and surrounding woodland is just spectacular, the house and its furnishings is so ornate! The guided tour was extremely interesting and packed full of information about the history of the house and its ancestors. A must see if your nearby!

Charming with fabulous views across the bay. Takes you back in time. Would love to have stayed longer to enjoy the wonderful terracing in the gardens.

This house is still in the ownership of the original family and has fine views over Bantry Bay. Most of the rooms are open to visitors. Much of the original furniture is still in situ, there being some very fine pieces. There is a tearoom on the ground floor and toilets can be found in the east wing. One of... More

Bantry House was the best part of my stay in Ireland. The accommodations were great. Had my first good night sleep. The hot towel rack in the bathroom was an extra bonus. The staff was very wonderful and the breakfast served was excellent. Wish I had the same delicious food in the other places I stayed. The history, beauty of... More

Arriving very late at night, staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. Our room had wrap around windows, overlooking the stables on one side and Bantry Bay on the other, amazing! Room was large, updated and very comfortable with lovely room decor. Our favorite was sitting in the huge library with a roaring fire... More
