Stunning views of County Kerry from this well preserved (restored) stone fort. A nice 10min walk from the carpark and close to Cahergall fort so you can visit both at the same time. Not a lot of information about the site. Children enjoyed exploring.

It's walk of about 7-10 mins from the main road before you reach the fort, it is in good condition for a ruin, the kids loved being able to climb on the grass topped walls and walk the full circle. They were intrigued by the 'escape' tunnel which was beneath the fort. I would not say it's a place you... More

This was a really nice place to visit. Opposite to many other places around, it's free to visit! So cool how these walls were made.

Easy to get to and very interesting to experience. A quick google search for some background before you go - makes it even more interesting. There is another site nearby - about three minutes walk.

This was the only fort with significant interior walls and although I'm not sure what the significance/use of the pattern was they were very interesting. You can see both the castle and the other fort from this one.

One of the best things about the Leacanabuaile Stone Ring Fort and its nearby sister Cahergall Stone Fort is that they are relatively easy to visit and no one (as yet) is charging an admission fee. These ancient ring forts (found in many places in Ireland) are amazing just from the very fact that they are still standing despite the... More

Cahergall is easily my favorite ring fort. When I went, the sky was filled with deeply grey, low clouds, so all of the colours of the landscape were vibrant. The secret room and the views of Ballycarbery Castle make this fort a must-visit!

If you are traveling the Ring of Kerry and are interested in historical sites and ruins, there are three excellent stops near the town of Cahersiveen. A 5 minute detour from the Ring of Kerry will lead you to two forts and Ballycarbery Castle. Of these attractions, Leacanabuaile Fort is the weakest of the three, but it is still excellent... More
