The hubs and I visited Ballycarbery Castle last September, when it seemed all of Western Ireland was soggy. We trekked through the mud and wandered around this stunning sight for some awesome photos. I'd highly recommend packing your camera and mud shoes to slop your way to great pics!

One of the coolest places we stopped at on the Ring of Kerry. Yes, it takes a little bit of effort to get there, but it's well worth it. There's a small car park, which is about a three minute walk away from the castle itself, and there's no admission fee. You can walk around the entire structure (keeping an... More

Castles in Ireland come in all shapes, sizes and conditions. This one is small and in ruins. It is off the beaten path, but well worth a visit to those travelling by. It is free to visit. The views from the castle are beautiful. The best part is that you can climb through the ruins. On the backside of the... More

This was such an awesome place to explore. It was a little off the beaten path but I am so glad we took a chance. I loved how you could climb up on the castle and look out to the water. We went in the winter so besides a couple, we were the only ones there. I would love to... More

And old castle - in great condition, in the middle of a cow pasture. Public admittance is allowed, if you're comfortable around animals.

Great place to explore. Our family are all a bunch of history lovers, so it wasn't a hard sell. The fact that enough of the castle was intact for climbing and exploring was awesome. I would imagine this is very crowded in summer. In winter, we practically had the place to ourselves. :)

We took a spin out to the castle and were delighted we did. The weather was freezing but sunny and the place was deserted. We went up to the first floor and had a picnic and took in the lovely views. Well worth a trip.

This was a nice little stop on our tour around Ireland. Even though it was drizzling rain, the sites were beautiful. Just be careful where you step.

Driving around the country roads of Ireland, we found ourselves looking for the Ballycarberry Castle, mentioned in a map we had, not much else to go by. No idea what to expect, nevertheless, we had to go and checked this out. Next to a fishing pond, stood this sad looking, yet imposing ruins of a castle staking a claim in... More

Awesome! Beautiful! You probably shouldn't climb around in this castle ruins, but we did. I like this more than restored castles thatI have seen.
