I had a look from the outside as in March the castle isnt open. It has a Wine Museum here too but this also was not open. This castle was used as an arms store by the Spanish during the siege of 1601. In the 16th century it was a customs house for wines, wood and tobacco also as a... More

We were in town to explore and were walking around when we came across this small castle-like building on Cork Street not far from the police (garda) station. It is a tower house that was originally built in the 16th centry as a customs house. Reading signs found there, it served as a prison in the 18th century and is... More

I came to Kinsale to visit this castle. The information center was closed and although I found a map I needed to ask directions three times, I found it worth climbing the hill to visit. I love castle chasing and this, the only in Kinsale built around 1500 was well worth the visit. I understand it houses a wine museum,... More

Small museum in the backstreets but quite interesting, especially if you like wine, set in a lovely old castle!

The views from inside are pleasant, and the little bit of history is interesting. If time and money are an issue, move this place to the bottom of your list. Nearby St. Multose Church is more interesting.

This is a interesting, but limited attraction. You can see it in about 30 minutes or less with the self-guided tour as well as some insights offered by the staff. There is no where to park near the castle, you must walk to it on foot. It is on a very narrow Street in the old section of the town.

It was raining so we chose to visit the museum at Desmond castle. It has served variously as a castle, a customs house, a prison and now a museum of wine. And it makes sense when you learn about it. Not only was Kinsale an important port for the shipment of wine during the 1600s and 1700s, it was also... More
