Well worth the drive out of town along beautiful country roads to find this wonderful old abbey, where you can wander through the old rooms, wind your way up old stairwells to atop the building and wonder how life was like in days gone by.

Not what you would expect to find but a place to take in the views especially on a sunny day. Been to Ireland several times but never been here. Definitely worth a visit.

As I walked around this Friary I marvelled at how much of it is still intact. Built in the 15 century, desecrated by Henry V111 and burnt by Elizabeth 1st followers around 1590 yet I was able to wander through this wonderful ruin and imagine...More

Rosserk Abbey, Moyne Abbey, and Mary's Well make for a lovely morning or mid-afternoon's leisurely engagement of County Mayo inclusions celebrating bucolic Ireland's abundance of hidden gems. In the first of these three stops, we encountered varying and engrossingly detailed embellishments that remain mostly within...More

We had this place to ourselves, except for the nearby cattle. Worth the trip on narrow roads. More extensive remains than many of the other abandoned churches that dot all of Ireland.

Situated on the banks of the River Moy, Rosserk Friary is one of the finest and best preserved of the Franciscan Friaries in Ireland. While it's not as large as nearby Moyne Abbey, or Ross Errilly Friary near Headford, just north of Galway, it's another...More
