Gary suggested we go see this very awesome castle and landmark. Located a short drive of about 15 minutes from downtown Dingle. Narrow roads lead to the castle once off the main "highway". Drive slow. Once at the site there is a paved parking area for 10/12 autos. Should avoid trying to take this site in on a weekend.

Off the n86 after Anascaul you will suddenly co to a little cafe on the left called Kate's Crossing. tURN left like into their parking lot and lo and behold there is a little signpost here that points to the castle, 2 km.so keep going on that road. You will come to a t almost immediately and take the right. Follow along a ingle tack road headed down the shore don't take any rods that don't look like hey will take you down to the shore. You eventually come to another fork in the pad where you will be confused and decide you went the wrong way but magically there is another hidden sign that points th way left to the castle so keep going. You will see the castle tower, pass it on outright and continue over. Little bridge to the raking lot. From there you an access the little beach if you want to walk over lots of big rocks. You can walk to the castle,which is signposted as private property although we walked up the path to it anyway. We didn't go very close because it does look like it might crumble at any time. In mid sept the brambles were full of blackberries and raspberries and the hedgerows of wild fushias were gorgeous! If you get a sunny day you will love sitting on th rocks in the gorgeous and dramatic setting at the foot of the cliffs.

Yes, the castle's ruins are on private property, and the owner doesn't allow people to get very close. However, there is a nice car park, and the setting is just wonderful. Although you can't get close to the ruin, there are plenty of opportunities to get some fantastic photos. Yes, the location is a bit off the beaten track, but the effort of getting there is well worth it. Plan on spending about 30 minutes at the site.

Four things we liked about this spot:
The drive down the narrow lane was very pretty and interesting, but we couldn't find the alleged standing stones on the L going down.
Small very quiet little beach-tide up & stormy when we were there- but info on a board about the geology.
The castle is a ruin- blame Cromwell, apparently, not the owners.
Walk up the lane to the Rt of the castle and-
The well of St John the Baptist is marked- only in Gaelic- so go through the gate 7 have a look- quite atmospheric.
Walking on past the stone marking the well there is a tiny slipway and nice view.
(That's 5 things- better still!)
Pictures show beach, stone and gate to the well, and the pier.

Loved visiting Minard Castle! Found it with the help of directions in the Rick Steves Ireland guidebook. It's a very peaceful location, and not overrun with tourists. We didn't see anyone else during the 20 minutes or so we spent there. Wish we could have spent more time here- it's definitely a hidden gem! Use caution if climbing over the large black rocks on the beach... they're very slippery!

Such a lovely place! Truly beautiful! I went there with my aunt and sister after staying in Dingle for a few nights. We went to the castle on our way down to Cork.

Beautiful, out of the way castle in a gorgeous setting. Nobody there but a horse. Walked past the No Trespassing sign warily, to get a little closer. Was not aware that the walls were unstable until I just read some of the other reviews. And of course, now I wish I had just taken photos from a distance. Because who wants a castle to fall on them?

What a great place to visit... even though you are not supposed to go in the castle... we did... shhhhh! Make sure you go to the St. Johns sacred well near by!!

This is a beautiful place to visit. Not very difficult to find. We were on the N86 coming from Dingle. Before you come to Annascaul you will see a shop Kate's crossing on your right. Take a right there, there is a small sign "An Mhin Aird" and immediately take a right again. After a while take a left, so you have the feeling you're driving towards the ocean. After a while you will see it on a hill. Beautiful environment with the ocean and all the big rocks. Very quiet. We walked up the hill to the castle, altough there is a sign that it is a private property. We're glad we went and we continued on the same road, because we also wanted to see the Annascaul lake. You finally reach the R561 close to Annascaul.

While it can be a little difficult to find. I have found that in Ireland, I drop my male penchant for refusing to ask for directions. Stop anywhere in Annascaul and you'll find your way easily. Besides, who doesn't want to interact with the locals?
The castle itself is not the most imposing or incredible structure you'll encounter in Ireland, or even the Dingle Peninsula itself. It does however hold some great history from the Cromwellian era and is surrounded with some seriously beautiful coastline.
You wont spend hours here, but you will return home with some fantastic photographs!
